Arsenal given major transfer lift as Leicester identity midfield replacement for star firmly on Arteta radar

Leicester City have identified a midfield replacement for Youri Tielemans as the playmaker edges closer to an Arsenal move.

Tielemans’ future has been up in the air for quite some time now and Arsenal remain keen on his signature. The 25-year-old will be a free agent at the end of the season as his contract ends.

Given Arsenal’s current options in midfield, Tielemans would provide both depth and quality.

The Belgian playmaker has spent the last four years with Leicester and his future has often been debated. It was thought that Leicester might have cashed in on Tielemans when they had the chance, but they instead decided to keep him around.

Brendan Rodgers’ side have had a difficult start this year, but things have been looking up. Having won three of their last five matches, they have started to pick up some momentum.

Tielemans himself has featured in all 13 of Leicester’s Premier League matches, starting in 12 of them.

The Belgian international has remained relatively injury-free since arriving at the King Power. The Arsenal squad currently has an average age of 23.8 and so Tielemans would add some useful experience.

Mikel Arteta’s side are riding high at the top of the Premier League, but they will still be keen on adding to their options.

Leicester target midfield replacement

Enzo La Fee has now popped up on Leicester’s radar as a potential replacement for Tielemans.

According to a report from 90min, Leicester are one of several clubs who are currently keeping a close eye on the Lorient midfielder.

The French midfielder has had an excellent season up until this point. He has four goal contributions in 13 appearances this season.

The 22-year-old is one of the most well-rounded midfielders currently playing in Ligue 1. This season he has averaged 2.8 key passes, 1.9 dribbles, 1.3 shots and 3.5 tackles per game.

His current deal with Lorient expires in 2024, although the French side are keen to tie him down to a new deal.

Fellow Premier League clubs Newcastle, West Ham and Fulham have also been keeping tabs on the promising French star. He also has his admirers from Europe, as the likes of Real Sociedad, Borussia Dortmund and Lazio have also been mentioned.

Leicester need reinforcements

Given their lack of business over the summer, Rodgers will be more than keen to add to his options.

Wout Faes was their only major addition in the summer and perhaps they have struggled as a result of not adequately strengthening their side.

James Maddison has been their standout player so far this season, although he continues to be linked away.

The Foxes currently sit in the relegation zone and have only picked up 11 points so far. If they were to continue to average 1.18 points per game they would finish on just 44 points.

Despite their struggles so far, the board has shown confidence in Rodgers’ ability to turn things around. With more performances like they produced against Leeds and Wolves, they should be fine.
