Arsenal are reportedly pushing to sign Marco Asensio from Real Madrid ‘at all costs’, although Liverpool will seemingly rival them all the way.
Asensio has one year to run on his Real Madrid contract and this is leading to rumours that a Premier League move could occur next. The right winger made 42 appearances under Carlo Ancelotti last season, registering 12 goals and two assists. He helped Real to win both La Liga and the Champions League.
However, Asensio only completed six matches in the Spanish league, and didn’t complete any during Real’s Champions League campaign.
That’s because Ancelotti prefers to start with Vinicius Junior, Federico Valverde or Rodrygo on the wings. Asensio gets plenty of appearances but either comes off the bench or is replaced in the second half.
Due to this, the Spaniard could decide to leave Los Blancos so he can become a more important player elsewhere.
And with his contract running down, a team should be able to get him for less than his actual transfer value.
According to a recent report from Spanish newspaper Sport, Liverpool like Asensio and are the ‘main bidders’ for him.
Interest also comes Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. Elsewhere, Juventus, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain would all like to sign the 26-year-old.
Arsenal tipped to pursue Marco Asensio
Sport provide an update, as cited by Sport Witness. They now push Arsenal as one of the most interested clubs, stating the Gunners want Asensio ‘at all costs’.
There is no mention of how much Mikel Arteta’s side are willing to pay. But what is known is Real’s demands.
The Spanish champions would ideally like to receive £51.7m. However, they could be tempted by an offer which comes in at £43m.
This is achievable for both Arsenal and Liverpool, setting up a potential bidding war.
The latest report provides an insight into Asensio’s contract negotiations with Real. The club would like him to renew as this would protect his transfer value.
Real have put a contract worth £3.76m a year to Asensio and his agent. This works out at £72,300 per week.
The wide man wants £5.98m every year, which equates to £115k a week. It seems there is a big difference in their expectations, giving Arsenal and Liverpool an opportunity to swoop in.
Asensio would help to bring some experience to Arteta’s attack, should he move to the Emirates. Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli are his main winger options currently, though they are both under 21 years old.
Asensio has won plenty of trophies during his time at Real, including three La Liga titles and three Champions Leagues. This would help him to bring a winning attitude to the Arsenal squad.
Spaniard could replace Salah
But Liverpool also like Asensio and could move for him as Mo Salah’s successor. The Egyptian forward will remain at Anfield next season, but his future after that is unknown.
Keep an eye on both Premier League clubs over the summer as Asensio’s future is finalised. An exit from the Bernabeu appears to be on the cards.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are on the verge of signing Fabio Vieira following a statement from Porto, his current side.
