Transfer agreement confirmed by selling club, as Arsenal delay explained

The Matt Turner transfer from New England Revolution to Arsenal has been confirmed by his current club – although a report has revealed why the Gunners are delaying their own announcement.
Arsenal have been negotiating the Matt Turner transfer in recent weeks ahead of the summer. The USMNT goalkeeper will move to the Emirates Stadium to deputise for Aaron Ramsdale. In doing so, he will likely push Bernd Leno towards the exit door.
Ramsdale has usurped Leno in the pecking order since his summer transfer from Sheffield United. As a result, the German is looking to leave and Arsenal have been trying to identify someone more comfortable in the backup role.
In that regard, New England Revolution keeper Matt Turner has been on their agenda. Reports recently claimed they had reached an agreement to sign him in the summer.
Now, the MLS side he currently represents have issued a statement to confirm he will become an Arsenal player in June.
They confirmed on their website: “The New England Revolution have agreed to terms for goalkeeper Matt Turner to join Arsenal of the English Premier League in a summer transfer for an undisclosed fee pending completion of a medical.
“Turner, the 2021 Allstate MLS Goalkeeper of the Year, is expected to join Arsenal in late June 2022, allowing the United States international to remain with New England through the entirety of the 2022 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League campaign and nearly half of the 2022 MLS regular season. Further information will be shared when the transfer is completed.”

Arsenal ready for £200m+ spend this summer
Arsenal are preparing to spend over £200m this summer with Isak, Calvert-Lewin and Ruben Neves their targets
Arsenal are yet to make any announcement of their own. According to Football.London, that is because they are waiting precisely until the summer when Turner travels for a medical.
For now, he will carry on playing in the USA until the time comes to put the finishing touches to the transfer.
Matt Turner transfer first of many for Arsenal this summer?
If the medical goes without problem, Turner should be the first summer signing for Arsenal in 2022.
He is unlikely to be the only one, either. They have several areas of their team to invest in.
One priority will be to find a new centre-forward. They are regrettably expecting Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah to leave as free agents in June.
To that end, they have been linked with an ambitious move for Real Sociedad frontman Alexander Isak as a replacement.
Another issue for them to resolve is the make-up of their midfield. Mohamed Elneny will also be out of contract, while Granit Xhaka could face an uncertain future again.
They tried and failed to sign Arthur Melo in January. Now, their attention seems to have shifted elsewhere; perhaps Douglas Luiz of Aston Villa could fill the void.
There is plenty of time for Arsenal to firm up their summer plans. But getting the Matt Turner transfer organised in advance is a starting point.
