Arsenal devise new Youri Tielemans transfer plan amid rising confidence despite double risk

Arsenal are willing to wait until 2023 to secure the signing of Youri Tielemans, according to a report that reveals two factors that could affect their plans.

Tielemans has been linked with Arsenal for a while due to his contract with Leicester City expiring next summer. In theory, he should be available for a reasonable price this summer. With that in mind, a move to the Emirates Stadium would not be out of the question.

Midfield is an area that Arsenal have been considering strengthening. Tielemans has Premier League pedigree and at the age of 25 would be a good player to invest in.

However, despite the ongoing interestFootball London are reporting that Arsenal would prefer to sign Tielemans next summer, rather than this month.

The article claims Arsenal feel Leicester’s asking price of around £32million is too high, given his contract situation. Since they have an agreement with Tielemans himself, they think they can wait until he becomes a free agent. In fact, they are confident of getting a better deal, however that may be.

There are a couple of ways in which they could change their plans. First, any movement from other clubs for Tielemans this summer could prompt them to bring their own pursuit forward.

Alternatively, Leicester could seek to tie Tielemans down to a new contract if he stays for the current season. It may only be a short-term arrangement for another 12 months, but would still entitle them to a transfer fee.

From his perspective, Tielemans would like to take the next step of his career this summer. He will not be playing in any UEFA tournament with Leicester this season, but could feature in the Europa League for Arsenal by joining them.

Where either club will be by 2023 will be interesting to see unfold.

Arsenal an appropriate step up for Tielemans

When Leicester signed Tielemans from Monaco in 2019, they were bringing in a player with Champions League experience.

His form since has added weight to the idea that he is capable of playing at a higher level again.

Although Arsenal have been without Champions League football for a while, they are aiming in the right direction. They finished above Leicester last season, as would traditionally be expected.

What's next for Youri Tielemans?

Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans is still being linked with Manchester United and Arsenal.

As one of the country’s biggest clubs, Arsenal may be an appropriate platform for Tielemans when the time comes to step up.

Now, it is a question of whether such a change will materialise this summer or the one after. It is easy to see why Tielemans may want the move now, especially in a World Cup year, but patience could pay off if he has to wait.
