N’Golo Kante: Arsenal given major transfer lift as startling report reveals bargain fee Todd Boehly is seeking

N'Golo Kante of Chelsea

A report has detailed how much N’Golo Kante could cost if Arsenal make a move for the Chelsea star this summer.

Kante is now in the final 12 months of his Chelsea contract, leading to rumours of a potential move away from Stamford Bridge. Paris Saint-Germain are monitoring his situation, although they are yet to begin transfer discussions.

Arsenal have been tipped to rival the French club for Kante’s signature. According to the Daily Star, Mikel Arteta’s side are readying a shock approach for the central midfielder.

Arsenal think there is a chance Chelsea will sell Kante due to his contract situation. He is also out of Chelsea’s pre-season tour of the US due to problems with his vaccination status.

CaughtOffside provide an update on the transfer links, while citing reports coming out of Spain. They claim talks between Arsenal and Chelsea could begin in the next few days.

And Blues owner Todd Boehly is willing to accept offers of just £16.9million for Kante, the report states.

With Kante’s contract running down, and the fact he is 31, they cannot command a huge fee for the Frenchman.

However, it is still an eye-catching figure given Kante’s status as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.

He also came fifth in the 2021 Ballon d’Or rankings with 186 points – that put him ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo, Mo Salah and Kevin de Bruyne in the standings.

A sale at £16.9m would see Chelsea take a loss of just over £13m on Kante. He originally moved to west London in a £30m deal from Leicester City.

Arsenal capturing Kante would be a real signal of intent. It would bolster Arteta’s midfield options and also serve to weaken a top-four rival.

However, there are a few reasons why this transfer might not happen. Firstly, there is a strong possibility Kante will extend his contract with Chelsea.

He loves Chelsea and might consider ending his career there. One more big contract would be sufficient given he is past 30.

Plus, Arsenal would struggle to fend off PSG if Kante did become available. After all, the Gunners will play in the Europa League next term. In contrast, PSG won the Ligue 1 title and will compete in the Champions League during 2022-23.

Kante could also be attracted by the offer of going back to Paris, where he was born.

A contract renewal at Chelsea is the most likely scenario for Kante. But if he were forced to leave, then an Arsenal switch might be low on his priorities.

Meanwhile, Arsenal academy director Per Mertesacker has been speaking about the future of Nicolas Pepe.
