Nottingham Forest make concrete move for Arsenal outcast Mikel Arteta wants to get rid of

Nottingham Forest have reportedly ‘sent a proposal’ to sign Arsenal left-back Nuno Tavares, who has been deemed surplus to requirements by Mikel Arteta.

The Gunners are currently focused on selling players rather than buying them due to having an oversized squad, as well as FFP concerns.

Arteta recently admitted that Arsenal’s current squad is ‘unsustainable.’ They have already sold six players this summer but are expected to part ways with a few more.

Folarin Balogun, for example, is one player that Arteta is willing to let go. With a price tag of £50m he is expected to be their most lucrative sale of the summer, with Monaco leading the race for his signature.

Tavares is another player set to be axed, and it seems Nottingham Forest are ready to make a move for him.

The left-back signed for the Gunners in 2021 but has never really nailed down a consistent spot in the starting XI.

Tavares has made 28 appearances for Arsenal across all competitions, scoring one goal and making two assists.

Forest ‘submit proposal’ for Tavares

According to reputed transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Nottingham Forest have now made a concrete move to sign Tavares.

On Twitterhe wrote: Nottingham Forest submit formal proposal to sign Arsenal left back Nuno Tavares on permanent deal.

“Forest trying top signing as new fullback as negotiations are still ongoing also on player side. Deal on.”

It’s no secret that Forest boss Steve Cooper is keen to bring in a new left-back before the transfer window closes.

The Tricky Trees have fewer options in that position this season as it stands. Renan Lodi was at the City Ground last season on loan from Atletico Madrid, but Forest decided against signing him permanently.

Tavares could be a better option than Lodi, though. At 23 he still has plenty of potential and could flourish with regular Premier League game time.

They are also trying to keep hold of star player Brennan Johnson. The Wales international is subject of interest from Tottenham and West Ham.

Johnson scored eight goals and made three assists last season and was key helping Forest to avoid relegation. They will only entertain offers in the region of £45m for him this summer.

If Forest can keep hold of their best players like Johnson and bring in some good signings like Tavares, they have a great chance of surviving the drop again this season.
