Final fee revealed as Arsenal reach Zinchenko agreement with Man City, but personal terms an issue

Oleksandr Zinchenko, Scotland v Ukraine June 2022

Arsenal have struck a verbal agreement with Manchester City to bring Oleksandr Zinchenko to the Emirates Stadium, according to a report.

The Gunners have made no mistake of bolstering their ranks this summer in a bid to finally secure a top-four Premier League finish. Four signings have already arrived, but more are in the pipeline.

Indeed, manager Mikel Arteta wants cover for left-back and in his defence. He had initially looked at Lisandro Martinez, but Manchester United have poached the Argentine from Ajax.

As a result, Ukraine international Zinchenko emerged as an Arsenal target earlier this week.

The Gunners made Anderlecht’s Sergio Gomez a back-up target, but their Zinchenko approach is now going smoothly.

Indeed, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reports that Arsenal and City have reached a verbal agreement on the transfer.

Zinchenko will cost the Gunners around £30million, following reports that the fee could reach as much as £35million.

While the fee is now out of the way, personal terms and the length of the 25-year-old’s contract remain an issue.

But given that talks between Arsenal and City have advanced quickly in recent days, Arteta and Gunners chief Edu will hope for a similarly quick resolution.

Arteta admires Zinchenko not only for his left-back capabilities, but his ability to play midfield too.

With Kieran Tierney cementing his place at left-back, it may well be that Arteta deploys Zinchenko elsewhere. The Spaniard has made bolstering his midfield another key priority.

Zinchenko moved to City from Russian side Ufa in 2016 and has made 127 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side.

And with 76 Premier League outings already under his belt, he would be raring to go in a new top-flight challenge.

Arsenal continue to raid City with Zinchenko

The versatile left-back may end up being Arsenal’s fifth summer signing, but he will be the second from City.

Arsenal have raided the Premier League champions for Gabriel Jesus, who is the Gunners’ new marquee striker.

Arteta, the former City assistant to Guardiola, is looking to rekindle ties with those he has worked with before.

It remains unclear whether Arsenal will now go after another midfield signing. Zinchenko can fill in there with Tierney the undisputed left-back and Fabio Vieira has also joined the midfield from Porto.

What is clear, though, is Arteta is leaving no stone unturned to help Arsenal take that next step.
