Arsenal to secure ‘best midfielder in the Premier League’ for next seven seasons after setting third priority
Arsenal are ready to offer a new long-term contract to captain Martin Odegaard, who was recently described as the best midfielder in the Premier League.
Odegaard has been influential for Arsenal this season during their pursuit of the Premier League title. He has started all but one of their 28 top-flight matches so far. In the process, he has scored 10 goals and provided seven assists.
His most recent goal was against Fulham on March 12, after which ex-Arsenal star Paul Merson told Sky Sports that “Odegaard is the best midfielder in the Premier League” at present, even saying his impact is greater than that of Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne.
Therefore, it makes sense that Arsenal would want to keep Odegaard, whom they signed from Real Madrid in 2021 after having him on loan for six months.
Indeed, the club have recently been working on new deals for several of their key performers, with the intention of maintaining their competitiveness for many years to come.
The likes of Gabriel Magalhaes and Gabriel Martinelli have signed contract renewals during the course of the current season. Soon, Bukayo Saka will follow suit after reaching a verbal agreement to extend his own terms.
And according to a report by Football Transfers, Odegaard is among those next in line to receive a new contract.
Per the report, Arsenal are aiming to tie down Granit Xhaka and William Saliba first. But after that, keeping Odegaard for the long term will be their next priority.

It is claimed that the club want to get Odegaard to commit until 2030, which would mean he would have another seven seasons to look forward to at the Emirates Stadium after the current one.
As part of the renewal, the Norway international would earn a significant increase to his salary. Promisingly, he is just as keen as Arsenal are to get the new agreement sorted.
Arsenal and Odegaard wise to continue together
Odegaard’s current contract is only due to last until 2025, which is why they need to start speeding up negotiations. By 2024, his market value could begin to decline if there was just one year remaining on his contract.
But it appears there will be no reason to panic and Odegaard’s long-term future should be confirmed before then. Then, the north London club can be safe in the knowledge that they can rely on him for the prime of his career.
The 24-year-old could be ready to commit into his thirties if he accepts the length of Arsenal’s contract offer.
Previous reports have indicated that Odegaard’s former club Real Madrid may have the right of first refusal if the time comes for him to leave Arsenal.
However, the attacking midfielder appears to be happy at Arsenal and could be about to prove it with a long-term commitment.
And after how well this season has been going for Odegaard, it certainly seems to be a sensible decision. Hence, all eyes will be on Arsenal to provide an official announcement after something is agreed in the coming weeks or months.
