Transfer Gossip: Arsenal back on trail of striker duo, while plan to re-sign former star emerges; Tottenham man agrees Celtic move
Arsenal have a growing belief they can land Alvaro Morata and are also chasing a Gunners old boy, a Tottenham defender is closing on a move to Celtic, while Thursday’s Transfer Gossip claims Chelsea are readying a late move for Aurelien Tchouameni.
GUNNERS READY TO POUNCE FOR ALVARO MORATA
Arsenal are ready to make an approach to Alvaro Morata – and there is a growing belief they can land the striker.
Mikel Arteta is hunting for at least one new striker this summer. He is likely to lose Alexandre Lacazette as a free agent, though the Gunners are now hopeful of tying down Eddie Nketiah.
However, bringing in a new face has not been an easy task for the Gunners. And their Champions League miss, means technical director Edu is having to work extra hard.
Indeed, the likes of Victor Osimhen, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Alexander Isak are all being linked with the Gunners. A deal for Osimhen, in particular, looks tough, especially given his inflated asking price.
However, one man who has been consistently linked is Spain striker Morata. The 29-year-old is at something of a career crossroads having just concluded a two-year loan back at Juventus.
The Bianconeri are seemingly unwilling to make his move permanent and have no interest in a new loan. Meanwhile, he does not figure in the plans of parent club Atletico Madrid.
According to Tuttosport, that leaves Morata with two options: Barcelona and Arsenal.
The problem for Morata is that he is only their second-choice option behind Robert Lewandowski. As such, the Italian paper claims Arsenal are ‘very attentive’ to the deal – and believe they could win the race.
And with Morata being left with perhaps little other option, the former Chelsea man may find himself back in London and the Premier League.
Alvaro Morata has scored 24 goals in 74 appearances for the Blues during a two-year spell between 2017 and 2019.
SERGE GNABRY IN ARSENAL THINKING
The Gunners, meanwhile, are also reportedly looking into the signing of Serge Gnabry.
The winger spent three seasons with Arsenal between 2012 and 2015, but never hit the heights. Indeed, he made just 18 appearances across that time, famously struggling to impress Tony Pulis during a loan at West Brom.
Since then, he has emerged as one of the Bundesliga’s best wingers at Bayern Munich.
Savage Alvaro Morata rejects Arsenal rumours
Arsenal have been rejected by Alvaro Morata who will leave Juventus this summer and go back to Atletico Madrid
Scoring 63 times in 171 games, his contract is due to expire next summer.
Talks over an extension have broken down, leading to claims of a move away.
However, he may opt to see out his deal at Bayern before leaving on a free next summer. And, according to Bild’s Christian Falk, the Gunners are looking at a possible free-transfer swoop in 2023.
Gnabry, still only 26, will be able to negotiate with overseas clubs from January 1.
Arsenal are also reportedly still considering a move for Tammy Abraham. The striker, a UEFA Conference League winner on Wednesday night, insists he is happy at Roma but refuses to rule out a return to the Premier League.
The Gunners know any deal will be tough, given Roma’s asking price, but may yet make a firm bid to sign him.
CAMERON CARTER-VICKERS CLOSING ON CELTIC TRANSFER
Celtic are closing on the signing of Cameron Carter-Vickers after agreeing personal terms with the defender.
The 24-year-old centre-half spent the season on loan with the Hoops and was absolutely outstanding as they wrestled the Scottish Premiership crown back off Rangers.
And boss Ange Postecoglou has made no secret of his desire to make the defender’s move a permanent stay.
Now Celtic have reportedly agreed personal terms with Carter-Vickers over a long-term move.
However, as per The Sun, Tottenham have set them a deadline to complete the move. Indeed, they want the move signing off by June 15, with Spurs setting them a £6m fee.
That deal is expected to rise to around £10m with add-ons and bonuses, depending on his success.
And if they don’t meet their demands, Tottenham will reportedly then allow other suitors to make their move.
However, Carter-Vickers is understandably keen to make the move to Glasgow. He played 49 times for the Bhoys, scoring four goals.
CHELSEA MAY MAKE LATE AURELIEN TCHOUAMENI BID
Chelsea are considering a late approach to snare Aurelien Tchouameni from under Real Madrid’s noses, claims a report.
The France midfielder will leave Monaco this summer in a deal set to cost around £68.6m.
Chelsea are long-time suitors of the 22-year-old, but have had to take a backseat in recent months amid their takeover saga.
Since then, Liverpool and Real Madrid have seemingly stepped up their pursuit – with Los Blancos reportedly emerging as favourites.
However, Goal reports that Chelsea could make a late bid to snatch him from their grasp.
They state that they see the player as a potential replacement for N’Golo Kante and Jorginho, both of whom are now in the final 12 months of their contracts.
They report if either move on this summer – with Jorginho the most likely – then Chelsea could look to bring in Tchouameni.
The Blues, soon to be under the control of new owner Todd Boehly, will reportedly have £200m to spend this summer.
