Transfer Gossip: Arsenal looking to hijack Man Utd move for Ligue 1 striker; Tottenham considering shock £30m swoop for old boy
Arsenal are ready to launch a bid to sign Manchester United strike target Moussa Dembele, while Friday’s Transfer Gossip claims that Tottenham could play £30million to bring an old boy back to the club this summer.
GUNNERS MOVE FOR UNITED TARGET DEMBELE
Arsenal have reportedly joined Manchester United in the race to sign French forward Moussa Dembele.
Dembele enjoyed an outstanding season last campaign, scoring 21 goals in Ligue 1 for Lyon.
The France international has kicked on after spells at Fulham and Celtic and is now on the radar of a number of Premier League clubs.
United have been linked with the 25-year-old for some time. And their need for a new No.9 could become imperative if they fail to convince Cristiano Ronaldo to stay.
But according to Media Foot (via TBR), the Gunners are continuing to monitor Dembele, despite recently snapping up Gabriel Jesus.
The report adds that Dembele could still be signed as a central attacker, with Jesus used on the right.
That is a role he often filled at Manchester City. However, the Brazilian wants to play in his favoured N0.9 role, so signing Dembele could end up being problematic.
Eddie Nketiah has also signed a new contract with the club and was a regular at the end of last season.
Signing Dembele could end up taking action away from the Gunners youngster. But, having lost Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the last six months, Arteta may want stronger competition for places in his forward line as Arsenal look to get back in the top four next season.
SPURS CONSIDERING SHOCK WALKER-PETERS RETURN
Tottenham are said to be exploring the possibility of re-signing former player Kyle Walker-Peters, who is also attracting the interest of north London rivals Arsenal and Manchester United.
The right-back left Spurs in 2020 when he joined Southampton in a £12million deal after an initial loan switch.
However, The Atheltic states that Tottenham inserted a £30m buy-back clause in the contract and are considering taking up that option.
Journalist Dean Jones, speaking to GiveMeSport, said: “Arsenal are keeping tabs on Walker-Peters, but nothing beyond that at this stage. Tottenham are exploring re-signing Walker-Peters from Southampton.”
Walter-Peters has made great strides since leaving Spurs, earning his first England caps. However, the fact that Tottenham are said to be in advanced talks to finally sign Djed Spence does make the link a strange one.
The Middlesbrough full-back has so far seen offers of £10m and £11m turned down for his services. However, latest reports state that the deal is finally close to being concluded.
If Spence does arrive then he will become Antonio Conte’s sixth signing of an impressive summer so far.
ARSENAL PLAYING HARDBALL OVER GABRIEL
Arsenal will reportedly refuse any move from Juventus or any other club for central defender Gabriel Magalhães this summer.
The Turn giants have a long-standing interest in the 24-year-old, who became a key figure alongside Ben White for the Gunners last season.
To that end, Mikel Arteta views the future of the player as non-negotiable.
The Independent’s Miguel Delaney reported on Thursday morning that Juve have approached Arsenal about the move. However, it’s since been revealed that the north London side have no interest in selling.
The Serie A side are looking at Gabriel as Chelsea target Matthijs de Ligt closes in on joining Bayern Munich.
