Arsenal could be gifted the chance to sign Youri Tielemans on the terms they want after an update regarding Leicester City’s outlook, while Aston Villa have a new priority in the market – according to Monday’s transfer gossip.
TIELEMANS TRANSFER PLANS MATCH UP BETWEEN ARSENAL AND LEICESTER
Arsenal may get their way in their pursuit of Youri Tielemans after a report revealed the latest stance Leicester City are sticking to.
Tielemans has been linked with a move to Arsenal in recent months to strengthen their midfield. It would also enable the former Monaco man to step back up to the level of a club competing in Europe.
Leicester missed out on any UEFA involvement this summer, whereas Arsenal have the Europa League to compete in.
However, there have recently been some doubts about the chances of Tielemans transferring this summer. Although there are a couple of weeks remaining in the transfer window, Arsenal have put the brakes on a move.
They reportedly believe Leicester’s asking price is too high, because the Belgium international is in the final year of his contract. With that in mind, they have been preparing to wait until next summer to sign him on a free.
The strategy comes with some risks, since another suitor could swoop in or Leicester could extend his deal. But, according to The Times, there is reason to believe Arsenal’s plan might pay off.
Leicester ready to run down Tielemans deal
It is claimed that there has been no agreement between Tielemans’ representatives and Leicester over a renewal. As a result, his current employers are bracing themselves to lose Tielemans for free.
Rather than rush through a sale not on their terms, it seems Leicester are happier to benefit from Tielemans’ services for one more season, which may be more valuable to them than any sub-standard transfer fee they would receive. Then, he will be available on a free transfer.
What's next for Youri Tielemans?
Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans is still being linked with Manchester United and Arsenal.
Of course, Arsenal would not have a free run at him by that point, especially if he impresses this season. But they should have confidence that a supposed agreement they have with him would still stand.
Tielemans will be 26 years old by the time he enters free agency.
DIEGO CARLOS CONCERNS PROMPT NEW ASTON VILLA TRANSFER SCRAMBLE
Aston Villa are ready to go back into the market to sign another defender, it has been claimed.
Diego Carlos was a statement signing for Villa earlier in the summer transfer window. However, the Brazilian player is facing a spell on the sidelines due to an ankle injury he picked up during a win over Everton at the weekend.
As reported by the Daily Mirror, there are now fears that Carlos will be absent until the turn of the year. He may have ruptured his Achilles, which he will take a number of months to recover from.
In that case, Steven Gerrard would only have Tyrone Mings, Ezri Konsa, Calum Chambers and Kortney Hause as centre-back options until January. Yet if he felt the need to upgrade upon them a few months ago, he likely still will.
Therefore, Villa are being tipped to sign another centre-back before the transfer window closes on September 1, although no potential targets have yet been identified.
Villa had a negative goal difference, albeit not by a major margin, last season. If they are to strive towards the top half like Gerrard wants, they will have to find those marginal gains to become more stable.
BRIGHTON DISCUSSING CUCURELLA REPLACEMENT
Brighton may have found their ideal replacement for Marc Cucurella, after a report revealed whom they are targeting.
Cucurella recently completed a big-money move to Chelsea after an impressive debut season with Brighton. Now, the Seagulls still need to replace him.
According to the Daily Mail, one way in which they could would be to sign Pervis Estupinan from Villarreal. Formerly on Watford’s books, there were links with Tottenham earlier in the summer.
Spurs’ attention, though, has turned to Destiny Udogie, who will be completing a medical this week. Therefore, Estupinan may have to look elsewhere for his second chance in the Premier League.
The Mail have reported that Brighton are now in talks with Villarreal over a deal for the full-back. They are not alone in their interest, since Nottingham Forest admire him too.
But Brighton would hope to add him to their Ecuadorian contingent, which also includes Moises Caicedo and Jeremy Sarmiento. Estupinan’s price tag is not revealed within the report. But Brighton have money to spend after cashing in on Cucurella and Yves Bissouma this summer.
