Arsenal are engineering themselves to the front of the queue to sign an uber-talented Spain Under-21 star who has been drawing favourable comparisons to Barcelona midfielder Pedri.
The Gunners are sat top of the Premier League and will be there on Christmas Day after a superb start to the season. Indeed, 12 wins from 14 games and just one defeat have seen Mikel Arteta’s side emerge as the main challengers to Manchester City.
But maintaining that form when the season resumes will be an extremely tall order for the Gunners. However, in order to maximise their chances, we have revealed that Gunners are preparing to make at least two new signings in January.
To that end, Arsenal are looking to sign a new goalscoring winger, with Mykhaylo Mudryk their No 1 priority. Any deal for the Ukrainian, however, will not come cheap amid claims Shakhtar Donetsk are seeking a fee of around £87.5m.
Arteta is also desperate to bolster his midfield options. Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey sit unopposed in the side with neither Mohamed Elneny or Albert Lokonga seen as worthy competition. As such, the likes of Youri Tielemans remains a top target for Arsenal with his Leicester deal running down.
One policy though in the transfer market that has served Arsenal well is to buy young, hungry and quality talent. And despite their lofty ranking at the top of the table, Arsenal have the second youngest average starting age in the Premier League this season.
And that policy appears likely to continue in January with Arteta turn his attention towards Las Palmas star Alberto Moleiro.
The 19-year-old has recently broken into the Spain U21 side and is being tipped for big things.
Arsenal keen on January swoop for Alberto Moleiro
Indeed, Barcelona are firmly on his trail with the player already being compared to Pedri in the Spanish media.
The two players both came through at Las Palmas’ academy, making his first-team debut aged just 16. Signing for an initial €5m in August 2019, Pedri has quickly made his mark at the Nou Camp.
Now they want a repeat with Moleiro. However, competition is fierce with Liverpool and Manchester City also reportedly on his trail.
Now, according to Calciomercato, Arsenal are now right in the mix for his signature.
And reports claim Edu is looking to get one over his rivals with a firm offer to Las Palmas.
The club are currently third in Segunda Division and looking good in the battle to secure promotion to LaLiga.
However, they would be powerless to resist a giant offer coming in for their star youngster. And reports claim Edu is willing to pay as much as £21.6m (€25m) to sign the player next month.
The January transfer window officially opens for business in just 41 days. As such, Edu knows he will have to act fast to secure Moleiro’s signature.
And if all goes to plan, Moleiro could find himself moving to Emirates Stadium in the new year. Despite his tender years, Edu believes Moleiro could have an impact over the second half of the season. And he could follow on from the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and William Saliba, two other expensive teenage imports.
