Arsenal ready surprise move for N’Golo Kante as report details why Chelsea could sanction shock sale

Arsenal are reportedly reading a shock approach to sign N’Golo Kante – and the Gunners seemingly have a strong reason to think they can pull off the surprise transfer coup.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu have made a fast start to the summer window. Indeed, they have secured their No 1 target in a new striker with Gabriel Jesus signing up and taking on the No 9 shirt. And the Brazilian hooks up with fellow new signings Marquinhos, Fabio Vieira and Matt Turner.

However, the Gunners are not done yet and still want at least two more additions. To facilitate such lavish spending, a report this week claims Arsenal are open to offers for seven players, including record-signing Nicolas Pepe.

Top of their list still is a new left-back and a midfield commander. As far as a left-back goes, Edu appears to be readying an offer for Alex Grimaldo, with the Spaniard up for grabs at a decent price.

However, it is an experienced midfielder that would truly complete an excellent summer for Arsenal.

To that end, they are reportedly looking at a deal for Youri Tielemans. The Leicester star has just a year left on his deal and looks likely to leave for a bargain fee this summer.

More ambitiously, Arsenal are also seemingly looking at Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. The Serbian would come with a more significant fee, though the move is being endorsed by an excitable Paul Merson.

Arsenal have belief Chelsea may sell N’Golo Kante

Now the Daily Star claims Arsenal are exploring the possibility of a deal for Kante.

The World Cup winner is one of the most likeable stars in the Premier League. A player of huge modesty, he has won all there is to win in the game.

And while he remains a vital cog in Thomas Tuchel’s side, the report claims he may be offloaded with just a year left on his deal.

Now 31, Chelsea are seemingly unsure about the length of deal to which hand Kante.

And while he remains a tireless runner, there are questions over how long he can maintain his lung-busting efforts.

As such, Arsenal reportedly believe Chelsea are open to the possibility of his sale.

Kante is also due to miss Chelsea’s tour of the United States. Entry requirements to the US require people to be fully vaccinated if they are non-US citizens.

Per reports, both Kante and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are having to stay behind as a result.

Signing worth breaking Arsenal transfer plans for

The Gunners’ transfer ethos since Arteta took charge has been to sign young, hungry, upcoming stars only. To that end, last summer the signings of Aaron Ramsdale, Ben White, Martin Odegaard and Albert Sambi Lokonga illustrated this.

To a certain extent, the policy looked to have paid off. The Gunners were much improved in 2021/22, narrowly missing out on a top-four finish.

However, they did appear to lack that certain leadership and know-how in the final weeks of the season. Costly defeats to Tottenham, Brighton and Newcastle in the run-in ultimately cost them that Champions League spot.

The signing of someone like Kante could seriously help in the seasons to come. Not only still an excellent player, his experience would prove invaluable to some of their younger stars. He’s certainly someone the likes of Odegaard can look up to and learn from.

Arsenal ready to up their bid for Milinkovic-Savic

Arsenal are prepared to up their bid for Lazio midfielder Milinkovic-Savic.

Therefore, if the price is right, he would be an excellent signing for Arsenal. Despite his contract situation though, Chelsea are unlikely to let him leave for a lowly fee. All the same, a deal for N’Golo Kante could prove a transfer masterstroke for Arteta and Edu if they can get that done.

Meanwhile, Arteta’s stance over Lucas Torreira appears to have softened with the midfielder given something of a lifeline on their USA tour.
