Xavi destroys Arsenal, Newcastle transfer plans with ‘really important player’ set to stay at Barcelona

Raphinha, Ansu Fati Barcelona

Barcelona manager Xavi has ruled out Raphinha leaving the club this summer, amid interest from Arsenal and Newcastle United.

The former Leeds United winger has struggled to find consistent form for the Catalans. But, it seems he is set to remain at the Camp Nou for at least another season.

This will come as a blow to Mikel Arteta and Eddie Howe, who have both been considering moves for Raphinha.

Indeed, as reported by TEAMtalk, Newcastle have prepared a ‘mega-money’ offer to beat Arsenal to the Brazil international’s signature.

Also, the Gunners tried to sign Raphinha when he left Leeds United last summer. Arsenal also made a tentative enquiry about the 26-year-old’s services during the January transfer window, and he remains on their radar.

But, it now seems both Premier League clubs will have to look elsewhere for attacking recruits.

Arsenal and Newcastle are expected to be busy in the transfer window, too, as they prepare for Champions League football next season.

Xavi rules out Raphinha sale

Barcelona are expected to offload several of their players this summer, as they prepare to make their own new additions.

Indeed, the Catalans are currently scrambling to find the funds to re-sign Lionel Messi, for example.

Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat is another of their key targets. Although, Manchester United could potentially beat Barcelona to his signature.

Nevertheless, in a recent interview, Xavi ruled out the possibility of Raphinha being sold this summer.

The Barca boss said: “Raphinha is not on the market.

“He’s staying at Barcelona and will help us a lot. He’s a crucial player for me and a really important player. He makes the difference.”

As mentioned, it’s been a difficult season for Raphinha. But, he did show some flashes of brilliance at times.

Overall, in 35 LaLiga appearances, the 26-year-old scored seven goals, as well as making seven assists.

While these aren’t prolific numbers, Raphinha still played a key role in helping Barca secure their first league title since 2019.

Now, Barca will have to sell different players if they want to fund moves for the likes of Messi and Amrabat.

Ansu Fati is one player who is trying to secure a move away from the Camp Nou. Jules Kounde is another, who is on Man Utd’s radar.

With that in mind, the Catalans will certainly be a team to keep an eye on in the transfer market. But, Raphinha won’t be one of the players leaving the club, despite Arsenal and Newcasle’s interest.
