Youri Tielemans transfer news: Deal nears for Arsenal as Edu reaches key agreement over signing No 5

Arsenal are reportedly growing increasingly confident they can add Youri Tielemans to their growing list of summer signings after Edu brokered a key arrangement with the Belgian.

Mikel Arteta and Co are busy shaping Arsenal’s squad as they prepare to welcome Europa League football back to Emirates Stadium. Indeed, they will need a stronger and more competitive squad if they are to go deep in Europe and maintain a push for the Premier League’s top four. That was a hurdle they just fell short of overcoming in 2021/22 – and they will hope they can go one better next time around.

To that end, technical director Edu has already made a quick start to summer window, with three signings confirmed. Indeed, captures of Marquinhos, Matt Turner and Fabio Vieira increase competition for shirts at Arsenal.

The Gunners are also preparing to welcome back William Saliba – and the Frenchman is tipped to usurp Ben White in the starting line-up.

Next one through the door at Arsenal will be Gabriel Jesus. The Brazilian striker has reportedly already signed for the Gunners in a £45m deal with only an official announcement pending.

The 25-year-old striker will hopefully add a cutting edge to an Arsenal attack that has been a body down since Alexandre Lacazette’s summer departure.

With Jesus to become signing No 4, it seems their fifth arrival of the summer also won’t be far behind. To that end, CBS reporter Ben Jacobs claims the Gunners are yet to submit for the Leicester man.

Personal terms agreed

But, having held talks with his representative, Jacobs claims Edu has now agreed personal terms with the Belgian.

As such, a bid could arrive soon, with Leicester hoping to fetch as much as £32m for Tielemans.

He told GMS: “Arsenal have put in a heck of a lot of work into Tielemans. They’ve agreed personal terms, and their talks with Tielemans date back for the best part of a year.

“But for whatever reason, Arsenal have decided not to swoop just yet and actually table a bid with Leicester City. And if they do so, and agree a fee at the lowest end £25million, at the highest end £32million, they will get Youri Tielemans.”

Quite why Arsenal are yet to submit their offer remains unclear. However, it may be that the club are simply playing a patient game in order to secure his signing at the lower end of the Foxes’ valuation.

Youri Tielemans could lead to Arsenal formation change

The signing of Tielemans could also lead to an Arsenal formation change next season, as per Football.London.

The Belgian scored seven goals and registered five assists for the Foxes in 2021/22 – all from a central midfield role. As such, his qualities will obviously benefit Arsenal.

And they claim Arteta sees Tielemans playing alongside Thomas Partey at the base of midfield in a 4-2-3-1 formation. However, his arrival gives Arsenal many more options. And they could even switch to Arteta’s favoured 4-3-3 approach instead.

That would see Partey flanked either side by Tielemans and Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard.

Either way, the system will be fluid and Arteta reportedly sees Tielemans as a key signing.

Meanwhile , Arteta has reportedly made a decision on Serge Gnabry amid claims Bayern may be forced to sell the winger this summer.
