Arsenal transfer under threat as Fabrizio Romano urges Man Utd to go after Mikel Arteta’s prime target

Arsenal could face competition from Manchester United to land Youri Tielemans after Fabrizio Romano told the Red Devils to pursue him.

Tielemans is in the final 12 months of his Leicester City contract and is showing no signs of wanting to renew. He knows his contract situation will aid a transfer to a bigger Premier League club.

Leicester will have to sell this summer or in January to make sure they get a fee for the central midfielder. If not, they risk losing him on a free transfer next summer.

Arsenal are the main suitors for Tielemans right now. Mikel Arteta wants to add another midfielder to his ranks and apparently views the 25-year-old as an ideal solution.

Tielemans would ideally like to join a Champions League side when opting to leave the Foxes. Arsenal cannot offer this right now after finishing fifth in the Premier League last term, which means they will compete in this season’s Europa League.

However, Arsenal are on the right path under Arteta and could end up making the top four this time around. Plus, Tielemans moving to the Emirates would give the Gunners a huge boost ahead of their top six rivals.

Arsenal need to be quick if they want to get Tielemans’ move over the line. According to a recent update from transfer insider Dean Jones, frustration is growing in the player’s camp over how long it is taking Arsenal to begin discussions.

Plus, United could race in and snatch Tielemans from under Arsenal’s noses. Romano says he would go after the Belgian if he was in the sporting director position at Old Trafford.

Fabrizio Romano tells Man Utd to chase Youri Tielemans

“If I were in charge of transfers at Man Utd, I would immediately try to sign Youri Tielemans,” he said during an interview with CaughtOffside.

“He’s in the final year of his contract and I’ve said all summer that I think he could be a great option for top clubs.”

Previous reports have put Real Madrid on Tielemans’ trail. But they already have strong options in midfield and are looking at other targets right now.

Arsenal remains the most likely destination for the star. But United could heed Romano’s advice and start talks with Leicester, plus Tielemans’ agent, in the near future.

United probably need a midfielder more than Arsenal. While the Gunners can rely on Granit Xhaka, Thomas Partey and Martin Odegaard, plus others, United midfielders Fred and Scott McTominay often receive criticism.

The Red Devils plan to bring in Adrien Rabiot to improve Erik ten Hag’s options. However, the Frenchman seems to have a poor attitude and can cause problems in the dressing room.

Tielemans, in contrast, has a winning mentality and has continued to perform for Leicester amid uncertainty over his future. Therefore, United should steer clear of Rabiot and prioritise Tielemans’ capture instead.

Meanwhile, a Premier League legend has reacted after Arsenal defender William Saliba was compared to him by Gary Neville.
