Alemany identifies three statement signings to kickstart new Aston Villa era, Emery will be buzzing
Barcelona director of football Mateu Alemany is expected to join Aston Villa this summer. Now, he has reportedly identified three players he wants to sign.
Unai Emery has turned the Villains from relegation fodder into top-six challengers in less than a season and he is already looking to bolster his squad, with the help of Alemany.
Indeed, Aston Villa are tipped to spend big in the upcoming transfer window, as they look to cement their spot at the top of the Premier League.
The Midlands club currently sit seventh in the table and trail fifth-place Liverpool by only five points. As a result, the Villa Park faithful are dreaming of European football for the first time since 2011.
As reported by TEAMtalk, Villa are currently ‘in talks’ to appoint Alemany as their new director of football. In theory, this should give them an advantage in signing some quality players, especially from LaLiga.
Emery has already identified several ambitious transfer targets. However, the three players Alemany is interested in will no doubt leave the manager very excited.
Alemany ‘recommends’ exciting LaLiga trio to Aston Villa
According to reports coming out of Spain, Alemany has ‘recommended’ Aston Villa sign Barcelona duo Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie this summer, along with Athletic Bilbao attacker Nico Williams.
Both Barca players arrived at the Camp Nou as free agents last summer. Christensen has been a regular in Xavi’s side this term, while Kessie has struggled for consistent minutes.
Nevertheless, it is noted that the Catalans could make both available in the transfer market, as they continue to grapple with financial issues.
As for Williams, he has been linked with a switch to Villa Park for some time, so it wouldn’t be a major surprise to see Emery bring him in.
This season, the 20-year-old has made 38 appearances across all competitions for Bilbao. In the process, he has scored nine goals and made six assists.
A versatile player, Williams has the ability to play as a winger on either flank or as a centre-forward on occasion. So, he could provide cover in several areas for Emery.
However, Liverpool have also registered an interest in the youngster, so Villa could face competition for his signature.
It would be a fantastic start to Alemany’s Aston Villa career if he could bring in the exciting LaLiga trio. Therefore, it will be interesting to see if Emery takes his advice this summer.
