Aston Villa could look to replace Emiliano Martinez with Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson this summer, according to reports.

The 26-year-old, who is currently on loan with Nottingham Forest, has received interest from several Premier League clubs, with the Red Devils willing to sell him for the right price.

However, one transfer expert has now claimed that a switch to Aston Villa would ‘tick a lot of boxes’ for the club and a switch to the Midlands club could be on the cards.

The Midlands club are enjoying something of a resurgence under Unai Emery at the moment after winning five of their last six games, with in-form striker Ollie Watkins firing them to seventh place in the Premier League table.

The Spanish manager is expected to be given funds to spend this summer but could be forced to bring in a new keeper, with Martinez being heavily linked with a move away from Villa Park.

As a result, Villa could look to bring in Henderson, who has reportedly informed the Man Utd hierarchy that he doesn’t see a future at Old Trafford.

O’Rourke: Henderson wants England spot back

According to reputed transfer journalist Pete O’Rourke, Henderson would be a smart signing for Villa this summer.

Speaking to GiveMeSporthe said: “I think he’s a goalkeeper with a point to prove.”

“It doesn’t look like he’s going to be staying around at Manchester United, so they’ll get a young hungry goalkeeper keen to win back his place in that England squad as well.”

“It ticks a lot of boxes for Aston Villa if they did lose Martinez, but in an ideal world they would like to keep the Argentine.”

As mentioned, Henderson is currently out on loan at Nottingham Forest. However, after picking up an injury in mid-January, Steve Cooper and co sanctioned a move for ex-Real Madrid keeper Keylor Navas.

Due to this, the England international hasn’t made an appearance for almost three months and barring an injury to Navas, is unlikely to play again this season.

With Henderson almost certain to leave Man Utd in the summer, he will no doubt be keen to sign for a club where he can establish himself as the number-one choice goalkeeper, with Aston Villa certainly a suitable option.

However, as previously reported by TEAMtalk, Tottenham are also keen on him, so Villa could face competition for his signature.

It is believed that a bid in the region of £30m would be enough to secure Henderson’s services this summer, so Emery and co will have to put their money where their mouth is to get a deal over the line.
