Boubacar Kamara details Lucas Digne, Steven Gerrard impact as he explains Aston Villa move

New Aston Villa signing Boubacar Kamara has spoken about the impact of Lucas Digne and Steven Gerrard on his decision to join the West Midlands club.
Kamara became a target for some of Europe’s biggest teams after entering the final six months of his contract with Marseille. That meant he was available on a free transfer, with one side certain to pick up a bargain.
Plenty of clubs came into the picture, including Manchester United, Tottenham, Newcastle and Atletico Madrid.
But ultimately it was Aston Villa who managed to land Kamara. The deal was announced a week ago, with the central midfielder set to link up with Villa on July 1. His contract lasts until June 2027.
Kamara has made the latest France squad ahead of their upcoming Nations League fixtures. He will play alongside new Villa team-mate Digne on the international stage.
When asked about the left-back, Kamara said (via Sport Witness): “I spoke with Lucas, yes. He explained the project to me, how he saw things, how he felt. It happened naturally.”
While Digne may have had a slight impact on Kamara’s Villa transfer, most of it can be put down to manager Gerrard.
“When the coach comes to see you at home, what he makes the trip, explains the project to you, you are happy,” Kamara added.
Boubacar Kamara ‘enjoyed’ Gerrard talk
“His speech was coherent. I enjoyed it very much. When such a coach tells you his ambition for you in the years to come, that he will continue to make me grow, progress, that changes a lot.
“He was one of the best midfielders in the world in his position. I look forward to joining him to work.”
The 22-year-old will certainly have a great midfield mentor at Villa Park in Gerrard.
Kamara will compete with the likes of John McGinn, Douglas Luiz and Jacob Ramsey for a starting spot. Gerrard can also utilise Marvelous Nakamba, Morgan Sanson and Carney Chukwuemeka in the centre of the pitch.

But with McGinn and Luiz picking up interest from Premier League rivals, it’s no surprise Villa have brought in Kamara.
And with his huge potential, their midfield is in good hands for years to come.
Meanwhile, France boss Didier Deschamps has given his verdict on Kamara moving to Villa.
