Aston Villa youngster Chukwuemeka could up sticks due to lack of game time under Gerrard

Aston Villa youngster Carney Chukwuemeka could leave the side due to a lack of game time, and a host of clubs are reportedly on alert.

Chukwuemeka is one of a number of promising youngsters at Aston Villa. The academy at Bodymoor Heath has produced some great talents.

Jack Grealish is one of the most famous names from the academy in recent times. So too is current midfielder Jacob Ramsey, who is joint second-top goalscorer for the Villans this term.

Chukwuemeka could well follow in the footsteps of those stars. The 18-year-old has already played 11 games in the Premier League.

He started his first league game for Aston Villa early on in the season. The midfielder played 63 minutes against Brentford under Dean Smith in August.

Since Steven Gerrard took over, Chukwuemeka has been used sparingly. He has played eight times in the league, from the bench, and provided his first assist for the West Midlanders against Norwich City in December.

However, there is a chance that the youngster may move on from Villa. Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has revealed that he could leave in the summer.

Romano notes his lack of game time as the reasoning for a potential move. Chukwuemeka has played 188 minutes for the Villans this season.

Indeed, Ramsey and John McGinn are generally preferred in the centre of the park.

Given Chukwuemeka is only 18, it would seem fair to assume more opportunities will come his way as he progresses and matures. Moreover, had he committed his future already, he may have been given more game time of late.

Clubs on alert for Chukwuemeka

The update suggests that there are multiple clubs on alert for Chukwuemeka. Germany is apparently a likely destination for the youngster.

The midfielder was tipped for a move to Borussia Dortmund not long ago. He would follow in the footsteps of Jude Bellingham as a young midfielder swapping the Midlands for Germany, should he make that move.

Aston Villa are yet to make a decision on whether to sign Coutinho from Barcelona for £33m this summer

Whether or not that is where he ends up remains to be seen. Chukwuemeka does still have a year left on his Villa deal, and there is a chance that he renews that.

It seems other Bundesliga clubs are also exploring the opportunity to take the 18-year-old on board.
