‘Advanced talks’ with former Aston Villa star ahead of £36million move revealed

Aston Villa were reportedly in ‘advanced talks’ with former loan star Tammy Abraham over a move, before he upped sticks for Roma.
Abraham had a decent period of his career at Chelsea. Indeed, the striker contributed to 42 goals in 82 appearances for the senior side.
Before he fully made it into the Blues side, though, the 24-year-old plied his trade in the Championship with Aston Villa. Abraham made 37 league appearances for the Villans, and scored 25 goals.
That remains Abraham’s best goalscoring season of his career. What’s more, it helped the West Midlands outfit back to the Premier League, after three seasons away.
There was speculation of him signing permanently that summer. However, Chelsea’s spending ban meant for an opportunity in west London.
Abraham featured in 34 league games in the 2019/20 season, and 22 the following year. The signings of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz, and more recently Romelu Lukaku, would have meant for even less opportunities this term.
As such, Abraham eventually made the £36million move to Roma. However, Villa were once again interested in pulling off a snare for the striker.
According to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, via Birmingham Mail, Villa were in ‘advanced talks’ over the star. Furthermore, they were set to meet the asking price of £40million, though clearly, that fell through.

Coutinho to snub Aston Villa for Arsenal this summer?

A move to Villa could have brought the best out of Abraham, given his eye for goal in his previous spell at Villa. What’s more, the Englishman was clearly a capable Premier League striker during his time at Chelsea, having scored 15 goals in 2019/20.
While the move failed to materialise, he is showing what he is capable of in Serie A. At present, Abraham has scored 23 goals in all competitions this term.
Abraham could have joined Cash
Should he have made the move, Abraham would have joined Matty Cash in the Villa side; the right-back is having a tremendous season. In fact, Cash has been the subject of speculation over a move to Atletico Madrid.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has reinforced claims that Cash is firmly in the Spanish side’s sights.
“I want to say again about Matty Cash and Atletico Madrid because it was already news in [January],” he said.
“But I wanted to say again because he’s still top of the list for Atletico Madrid as right-back. And so it’s a serious, serious possibility for Atleti.”
A move to the Spanish champions would be a big move for Cash, who was playing in the Championship two seasons ago. It would, however, be a big blow for Villa.
