Clement Lenglet joins Aston Villa on loan

Aston Villa have announced the loan signing of French international centre-back Clement Lenglet from LaLiga giants Barcelona.

The defender returns to the Premier League having spent last term on loan at Tottenham, where he made 26 league appearances for a Spurs side who conceded 63 top-flight goals.

Lenglet actually started his career with Nancy in his native France before going on to enjoy a spell at Sevilla and then on to the Nou Camp.

The now 28-year-old has played 160 times for the Catalan giants in all competitions, scoring seven goals.

The move is subject to a successful visa application.

Lenglet’s acquisition, which will cost just 75 per cent of his Barca salary, could be vital for Villa as extra depth in defence will be needed for the upcoming  Europa Conference League campaign.

The Frenchman will directly replace the injured Tyron Mings in Unai Emery’s first-team squad.
