Aston Villa leading chase to sign 12-goal striker scouted by plethora of Premier League clubs

Miles Leaburn Charlton

Aston Villa are reportedly leading a number of Premier League rivals in the chase to sign a highly-rated League One striker this summer.

Villa Park boss Unai Emery is known to be on the hunt for a new central attacker to back up Ollie Watkins, and it looks as if the Spaniard could turn to Charlton Athletic for that man.

Young forward Miles Leaburn is the player in question, with the 19-year-old earning rave reviews down at The Valley this season.

The 6ft 5in attacker, who is a former Chelsea trainee, is the son of another Charlton frontman Carl Leaburn.

Football Insider reports that Villa are one of a number of Premier League clubs watching the player, but that it’s Emery’s men who lead the chase for his signature.

Leaburn has impressed for Charlton in his breakthrough season, having signed his first professional deal with the Addicks last summer.

The towering forward was promoted to the first team soon after and scored on his professional debut against Accrington on July 30.

Leaburn has since gone on to score 12 goals this term, adding a further three assists in 36 games in all competitions.

The youngster, who scored five goals in four games between March and the start of April, is out of contract in June 2025.

Football Insider adds that Villa are also tracking more young talent, with Hearts sensation James Wilson also on their radar.

Emery’s men are currently flying, having won six of their last seven league games, and currently sit sixth in the table.

Next up for Villa is a Premier League trip to Brentford on Saturday.
