Aston Villa lead pursuit of wanted Premier League star Bissouma despite first midfield snare

Yves Bissouma, Brighton, April 2022.

Aston Villa are reportedly still keen on the signing of Brighton man Yves Bissouma despite having landed midfielder Boubacar Kamara.

Villa are one of a number of sides who have been linked with the snare of Bissouma previously. The likes of Liverpool and Manchester United are also potential suitors.

Villa were reported to be tracking a number of central midfielders in January. Kalvin Phillips and Rodrigo Bentancur were also on Steven Gerrard’s radar.

Shaping the squad to his liking is a clear aim of Gerrard’s. He began that in January, with Philippe Coutinho and Lucas Digne the big additions.

Former Marseille midfielder Kamara became Gerrard’s first piece of summer business recently. Indeed, the manager got the midfield addition he had been targeting since his arrival at the club.

Despite that, it seems the Villans are continuing their pursuit of Bissouma.

90min reports that Villa are leading the chase for the Malian, and are hopeful of striking a deal with Brighton.

Should they pull it off, Bissouma would be the second player in the same position Villa had signed in the window.

That could mean for a number of outgoings from the midfield, as there can not be ample opportunities for each with two signings coming in.

Morgan Sanson and Douglas Luiz have already been tipped for moves away from Villa Park, and the potential signing could mean they definitely happen.

Bissouma signing could up Villa quality

Should Bissouma join Villa, he would add to the quality in the side. He has a good deal of Premier League experience, after four seasons with Brighton.

Indeed, he has been one of the Seagulls’ most crucial assets over the past couple of seasons.

Adding him into the Villa side would mean for a stronger midfield, especially after the signing of Kamara.

Furthermore, the snare would mean for more competition for places, which is likely to add to the standard of performances of each player. It does seem like adding Bissouma into the side would be a good move for Villa.

However, they would likely have to contend with a host of other clubs for the midfielder’s signature, with the report claiming that Arsenal, Tottenham and West Ham are in touch with Brighton regarding the star.
