TEAMtalk understands that Brentford have opened talks with PSV Eindhoven about a deal for starlet Johan Bakayoko.

They have switched to the 20-year-old Belgian after learning that Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson would prefer a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Liverpool and Burnley are also interested in Bakayoko, but Brentford believe that they can win the race for his signature.

Fabrizio Romano revealed on Tuesday that Bakayoko was under consideration by Brentford and now TEAMtalk has been told they have made contact with his current employers.

Bakayoko is under contract with PSV until 2026. He has scored nine goals from 43 games for them so far.

Brentford have strengthened their squad this summer with the signings of players like Mark Flekken in goal and Nathan Collins in defence. Before the transfer window closes, they also want to add to their attack, which is why they are trying to sign Bakayoko.

According to Football Insider, PSV value Bakayoko at around £25m after turning down a recent bid by Burnley that was worth more than £17m.
