Brentford stat-leader says ‘we will see what happens’ amid links to Tottenham in blow for Thomas Frank

Brentford goalkeeper David Raya has given an update on his future amid growing links to a move to Tottenham at the end of the season.
The 27-year-old has been outstanding for the Bees but has voiced his ambitions to play at a higher level in the future, which will come as a blow to Thomas Frank.
Antonio Conte is in the market for a long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris and Raya could be the ideal candidate if they can get a deal over the line.
Brentford have enjoyed a fantastic start to the season, currently sitting in eighth place in the Premier League table as they battle for Europa League football.
Raya has been key to this success, after making the most saves of any keeper in the division, as well as keeping six clean sheets so far.
However, the Spaniard has now opened up on his ambitions for the future, despite saying his current focus is on continuing to perform well for the Bees.
Speaking to Spanish newspaper AS, via Sky Sports, he said: “Every player has goals and wants to improve. Now I am focused on my team and in the summer we will see what happens.
“If they (Brentford) want to do business they will have to do it, but there is a long season left and I am only focused on doing it well.
“In summer we will assess my situation.”
Raya comments good news for Tottenham as Conte eyes new keeper
It is no secret that Tottenham are in the market for a new goalkeeper after Lloris’ recent performances have left Conte in doubt over whether he is good enough to continue between the sticks.
Most recently, he made a terrible blunder against Arsenal, flapping at a cross from Bukayo Saka as the ball deflected off his flailing right arm and ended up in the back of his own net.
As reported by TEAMtalk, Spurs have a shortlist of three or four candidates to replace Lloris next season and it seems that Raya could be one of them after making enquiries about him in early January.
Everton’s Jordan Pickford is another of Conte’s targets, with it looking likely that the England keeper would leave Goodison Park should they be relegated. But, even if they manage to survive, they may opt to sell him given their poor financial situation.
Raya’s current contract with Brentford is due to run until the summer of 2024, so if the Spaniard won’t extend his stay at the club, as suggested by his recent comments, then the Bees may opt to sell him while his price is at a premium.
Lloris will also enter the final year of his contract at Tottenham in the summer, and with him making the most individual errors leading to goals of any player in the Premier League this season, it makes sense for Spurs to have a replacement lined up.
Transfermarkt value Raya at £22m, but with Dutch giants Ajax also interested in signing him, Spurs may have to offer in excess of that amount to get a deal over the line.
