Brighton enter contract discussions with star amid brilliant form, as international call-up beckons

Brighton have begun talks with wide midfielder Solly March over a new contract, TEAMtalk understands.

The 28-year-old, who has been on Brighton’s books since 2011, is enjoying a rich vein of form. He has managed five goals and two assists in his last eight Premier League appearances with the Seagulls.

It is already his most effective top-flight season and it could get even better. Brighton are aiming to qualify for Europe and March will play a vital role in the next few months of the campaign.

TEAMtalk has been told March is set to be rewarded with a new deal for his exploits since the turn of the year. Brighton will extend his current terms, which expire in June 2024.

And that is not the only bit of good news for the former England U21 international. He has caught the attention of England boss Gareth Southgate and is getting closer to earning a call-up to the senior Three Lions squad later this year, TEAMtalk understands.

England’s next matches are European Championship qualifiers against Italy and Ukraine. March will be in the running to make Southgate’s squad if his great form continues.

March would be a useful player for Southgate to have in his setup. He can operate as a wing-back on either flank, or further forward as more of a traditional winger.

Brighton star hoping for England opportunity

The Brighton ace spoke about his England ambitions earlier this month. During an interview with The Argus, he said: “Obviously you want to represent your country, it’s a big honour.

“Now is probably the biggest chance I have to do that. I just need to keep going and keep scoring goals and put in the performance.

“It’s an ambition of mine so if I keep putting in performances and scoring goals I think I have a chance.”
