Julio Enciso to the Premier League back on as negotiations with interested club gain traction

Brighton are reportedly back in for January target, Julio Enciso, and negotiations for the Paraguay international appear be advancing.

Enciso has been a revelation in the top division in Paraguay this season. In 14 games, the forward has bagged 11 goals and provided three assists.

That is nine goals more than he managed in 2021 and in three fewer games too.

He is the top scorer in the Primera Division in 2022. What’s more, at just 18 years old, he has already made five appearances for the Paraguay national team.

While he has only started two of those, he is clearly a big part of their plans for the future. Enciso has provided one assist in a Paraguay shirt but is yet to find the net himself.

Given his obvious talent, the 18-year-old has garnered attention from the Premier League. Brighton were reported to be interested in January, but the potential deal fell through late on.

It was initially reported that the forward snubbed the deal, though there were a few different reasons also cited.

As such, it had appeared that Brighton’s pursuit of the forward may have been over. However, it now seems that the Seagulls are still keen on the prolific Paraguayan.

Journalist Andres Rolin reported that agent Pedro Aldave was in Brighton recently.

It was reported that he was ‘advancing in the negotiation’ of the deal between Enciso and Brighton.

Enciso could bring a needed eye for goal

The snare of a fairly raw talent, at just 18 years old, may be a risky one. However, Enciso’s 11 goals in 14 games in 2022 show he has a genuine eye for goal.

That is something that Brighton could certainly benefit from. Despite being 10th in the Premier League, they have scored just 38 goals this season.

Only five teams in the league have a worse goalscoring record than Brighton this season. What’s more, none of their players have reached double figures for goals this season.

Top goalscorer Neal Maupay has nine, and Leandro Trossard has eight, with the next best tally after that being five.

With that being said, the signing of Enciso could inject a quality in front of goal that Brighton seemingly require, in order to take the next step.
