Burnley aim to repeat Cornet success with record-equalling move for midfielder
Burnley are hoping to repeat the success they have had with Maxwel Cornet by signing another Ligue 1 ace next summer, according to reports.
Cornet, 25, joined the Clarets from Lyon on August 29. Sean Dyche’s side parted with €15m (£12.9m) to capture the star, making him their record signing.
The transfer has so far been a resounding success, with the Ivory Coast international notching five goals in his first seven Premier League appearances.
Cornet got up and running for the campaign with a right-footed volley against Leicester at the King Power.
He has since breached the defences of Southampton, Brentford and Crystal Palace, with two goals coming against Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men.
Burnley are delighted with Cornet’s performances and are now hunting for a similar transfer.
Sport Witness, citing reports in the French press, write that the Lancashire club are hoping to sign Angelo Fulgini.
He is a 25-year-old central midfielder currently plying his trade with Angers in Ligue 1.
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel's Andreas Christensen ultimatum
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has urged Andreas Christensen to walk the talk over his contract after showing willingness to sign a new deal, with more news on Matthijs de Ligt and Jules Kounde.
Burnley want the former France U21 international to add a creative spark to their midfield. He is certainly capable of doing that, having registered seven goals and three assists during the 2020-21 campaign. So far this term, Fulgini is on two goals and two assists from 14 games.
The Clarets want to match their record transfer by putting €15m on the table for him. That is a fee Angers will likely snap up as they are in financial difficulty.
Burnley are not the only English side to hold an interest in Fulgini. Newcastle are keeping tabs on him, as are Championship club Fulham. But Burnley seem to be ‘leading the race’ as Fulgini closes in on the next step of his career.

Dyche hints at Burnley transfer activity
Burnley travel to Wolves on Wednesday night in search of their second league win this season.
At the pre-match press conference, Dyche said: “I think it’s a rounded squad. You could argue various spells that we’ve had, the team that made the Europa [League] position and stuff like that.
“You can argue between the different groups, but I think it’s certainly a squad with a rounded look to it.
“We’ve got players who are very competitive in virtually all areas, so yes, I think it’s a good squad, I’m certainly happy with it.”
The manager then hinted that more players could be brought in during January. “We did activate the market, which was important, we may well have to do that again going forwards, we’ll have to wait and see.”
