Cesc Fabregas reveals how Chelsea man can improve as Barca transfer edges closer

Cesc Fabregas of Monaco

Former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has sent advice to current Blues star Andreas Christensen, amid the 25-year-old’s intensifying links with Barcelona.

Christensen is in the final few months of his Chelsea contract. He is yet to agree fresh terms with the club. That has led to interest from Xavi’s side, who want to improve their squad with an impressive free transfer.

According to Sport Witness, who cite Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Chelsea have ‘already given up’ hope of retaining the centre-back. They are seemingly resigned to losing him to Barca.

Christensen spoke about the contract saga over the weekend. “Things can still be done. Being part of a winning team is all that I want to be as a football player,” he said (via the Daily Mirror).

“It’s hard because all the talks between the club and my guys, I try to keep it away because I want to focus. It’s not changed for me.

“I go on the pitch every day not really thinking about it – I leave that to the club and my guys, and I can focus on playing football.

“I just focus on winning, really. It’s a difficult situation.”

Cesc Fabregas provides advice

Fabregas, who played for Chelsea between 2014 and 2019, has now revealed how Christensen can step up his game. He also made a comparison with current Barca defender Eric Garcia.

However, the advice may well benefit Xavi as the Spanish giants close in on Christensen’s signature.

“He seems like a great player to me and his contract is up,” Fabregas said (via Sport Witness). “When I arrived at Chelsea, in 2014, he was already training with us from time to time.

“He was the typical young man who went up, and then you could see the way he read the game, the way he anticipated.

Kepa Arrizabalaga is set to leave Chelsea with replacement already lined up

Sam Johnstone is being touted to replace Kepa Arrizabalaga this summer as Chelsea look for £50m for the Spain Goalkeeper

“I always say that, sometimes, he needs to be a little bit more scrappy, right?

“He’s a very good kid, and sometimes it’s a little bit of what I see in Eric (Garcia), although I don’t know him.

“And today, in football, if you want to shove without hurting anyone, you have to be a little bit more forceful.”

Chelsea swap deal comes to light

Meanwhile, Chelsea are open to the prospect of signing Adrien Rabiot from Juventus as part of a summer swap deal for Jorginho, claims a report.

It’s unclear exactly where Thomas Tuchel stands on the future of Jorginho, but Juve are hoping to land the player.

Max Allegri likes Jorginho and the Serie A giants could offer Rabiot to Tuchel’s side as part of the deal, as per TuttoJuve.

What’s more, Rabiot, 26, “is a player who is liked” by Chelsea.

The proposed deal will more than likely be a loan. It may be similar to the one that brought Saul Niguez to the club last summer.
