Chelsea announce Noni Madueke signing as exciting winger declares he is ‘buzzing to be Blue’

Noni Madueke and Cody Gakpo of PSV

Chelsea have officially announced the signing of 20-year-old PSV Eindhoven winger Noni Madueke on a £29m deal that could prove to be a great bit of business.

The Englishman began his career at Crystal Palace, before later moving to Tottenham, where he failed to make a senior appearance.

But, with Madueke now considered to be one of the most exciting young players in Europe at the moment, Spurs may live to regret letting him leave.

The youngster left Spurs in 2018 for PSV, where he gradually established himself as a first-team regular.

Last season, he scored an impressive nine goals in 35 appearances across all competitions, attracting interest from several big European clubs.

As reported by Sky Sports Newsthere was a feeling that the Dutch giants would not sell him given they have already sold Cody Gakpo to Liverpool this month, but Chelsea were ‘very insistent’ and got the deal over the line.

Madueke, who was born in North London, could prove to be a fantastic long-term signing for Chelsea.

This season, the winger has featured infrequently, scoring two goals in nine appearances after being ruled out of several matches due to an ankle injury.

However, the Londoner is widely touted to have huge potential and is already a force in attack. Although it is admittedly a big step up from the Eredivisie to the Premier League, he now has the opportunity to play a key role in the remainder of Chelsea’s season.

Madueke may have to play a key role in Chelsea’s season

While Graham Potter is yet to comment on the Blues’ latest signing, Madueke has already given his verdict on his sensational move to Stamford Bridge and it’s fair to say that he’s very excited.

Speaking on Chelsea’s Twitter page, he said: “I’m so happy to be back in London and to be playing for Chelsea.

“I like to get the ball and be exciting, take players on. Beat players, create a lot and score.

“This is the best league in the world, best teams, best players. I’m absolutely buzzing to be a Blue.”

The only question that remains is: will Potter keep Madueke as part of his current squad, or opt to loan him straight out on loan as they have done with previous signings?

Indeed, while the winger had an excellent 2021/22 campaign, he has struggled to find match fitness playing for PSV this season.

Also, Chelsea have already signed the incredibly talented Mykaylo Mudryk for a staggering €100m (£87.9m) this month, so in all likelihood, the Ukrainian will go straight into the team for their clash against Liverpool on Saturday.

Potter also has Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech as potential winger options, but with Raheem Sterling and Christian Pulisic currently sidelined with injury, Madueke may yet get the chance to convince his new manager to keep him for the rest of the campaign.

What is for sure though, is that if Madueke lives up to his sky-high potential, he could end up being a monumental acquisition for Chelsea.
