Chelsea have offered two first-team stars and £25million for Anthony Gordon which they say will be worth £85million to the Toffees, a report claims.
Chelsea are orchestrating a late and expensive flurry of signings at Stamford Bridge to boost Thomas Tuchel’s squad. Following the arrivals of Kalidou Koulibaly, Raheem Sterling and Marc Cucurella, three more signings could be on the way.
Leicester defender Wesley Fofana is moving to west London in a deal worth £70million plus add-ons. Barcelona’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is also a target.
But Chelsea are putting more of a focus on signing rising Everton star Gordon. Tuchel’s side have reportedly had a £50million plus £10million in add-ons bid rejected by Everton, although Frank Lampard has contested that.
Nevertheless, what matters is that Everton are standing firm over their England Under-21 international.
According to Football Insider, though, Chelsea’s fresh proposal may begin to turn heads.
The London club have supposedly offered Everton £25million and midfielder Conor Gallagher and Armando Broja to sign Gordon. Chelsea value their duo at £30million each, taking the offer to £85million in their eyes.
Striker Broja was previously a target for West Ham and Everton, with the latter now having signed Neal Maupay from Brighton. Nevertheless, adding Broja as part of a deal for Gordon may prove tempting.
Broja starred on loan at Southampton last season and has only played 17 Premier League minutes this term. The Albanian has yet to start for Chelsea and remained an unused substitute for Saturday’s win over Leicester.
Midfielder Gallagher has had more minutes but is yet to prove himself as a regular Chelsea starter after last season’s impressive loan spell at Crystal Palace. He received a red card against the Foxes.
Gordon, meanwhile, also scored on Saturday as Everton drew 1-1 with Brentford.
Anthony Gordon deal a Chelsea risk
Gordon impressed at the back end of last season, but he is ultimately yet to prove himself fully either.
The 21-year-old scored four goals and assisted three others in the league last season. One of those – in the 1-0 win over Manchester United – proved crucial in Everton avoiding relegation.
But Gordon needs another full season of Premier League football where he contributes very regularly to prove himself worth the figures Chelsea are reportedly offering.
Everton of course would prefer Gordon to stay, but they would surely not mind getting two first-team quality stars and a sizeable cash sum in return as compensation for losing him.
Chelsea have been focusing on their future with some of their other recent signings. Midfield youngsters Cesare Casadei and Carney Chukwuemeka are exciting prospects for the future.
Gordon would fall into that bracket too – while also being able to step up with immediate Premier League minutes.
However, it looks a big risk for Chelsea to offer the equivalent of £85million for him.
