Chelsea transfer lined up if Newcastle complete signing of the summer with ‘mega offer’

Napoli are formulating plans to replace their star man if Newcastle go big this summer, and Chelsea striker Armando Broja has been earmarked as an ideal replacement, per a report.

Whether Newcastle will spend big or adopt a more pragmatic approach this summer is open to debate. The common consensus was that if safe in the knowledge their Premier League status had been secured, Newcastle’s owners would show the true might of their financial power this summer.

However, the Telegraph presented a different view, instead stating a more modest spree would be sanctioned.

Regardless, links with some of Europe’s elite continue to come thick and fast. Few fit that bill better than Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.

The 23-year-old striker would be the type of big-name arrival Magpies fans have been hoping for.

Osimhen has bagged 15 goals and four assists from 25 matches across all competitions this season. And given his age, he would be a signing for the mid and long-term too, not just the here and now.

However, Napoli would understandably be reluctant to lose their star man. As such, reports have indicated he could cost as much as £84m to buy.

Now, Italian source Alfredo Pedulla has shed new light on a potential Newcastle approach, and what Napoli would do in response.

It’s claimed Napoli ‘want to be ready in the event of a mega offer’ for their Nigerian centre-forward.

Newcastle are namechecked as a confirmed suitor, along with Manchester United and Tottenham. Arsenal have also drawn links from alternative outlets. Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are both due to leave as free agents this summer.

In the event an offer too good to refuse did arrive for Osimhen, Napoli have two replacements in mind.

Sassuolo’s rangy striker Gianluca Scamacca is mentioned, though the 23-year-old is also a target for both AC and Inter Milan.

Instead, a move for Chelsea loanee Armando Broja might be easier to complete with the Albanian highly regarded in Naples.

Broja valued at over €30m

The 20-year-old is currently excelling on loan with Southampton where he has nine goals to his name.

It’s claimed Chelsea’s off-field turmoil could open the door for Napoli to pounce. What’s more, with the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner and Kai Havertz on the books, Broja’s pathway to first-team football at Stamford Bridge may be blocked.

The report concludes a fee higher than €30m would be required to twist Chelsea’s arm. Though if Osimhen were to move to England, Napoli would have cash to spare.
