Chelsea chances of huge Prem signing talked up after Liverpool receive Bellingham backing

One midfielder might well be heading to Stamford Bridge, while Liverpool have received backing to land Jude Bellingham, who is also on Chelsea’s wish list.
Chelsea have never been shy of spending big money to give their squad the best chance of succeeding. That has already been the case under the new ownership of Todd Boehly.
Indeed, over the summer, a host of new talent was brought to Stamford Bridge. The biggest signings included Raheem Sterling and Wesley Fofana, both from within the Premier League.
The Blues’ spend in the window was around £250million. Despite that, the work is never done, and with a new manager at the helm, more improvements are likely.
Indeed, Graham Potter will be keen on shaping the squad to his liking.
One position that has not had all too much improvement at Chelsea of late is the midfield. Of recent additions, Carney Chukwuemeka appears sparingly, as he is still developing, and Denis Zakaria has not gotten a sniff.
Instead, the Blues have preferred, for the most part, to stick with players that have been at the club for some time. Indeed, Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have featured in most games when available.
N’Golo Kante would no doubt be towards the top of the food chain, were it not for an injury keeping him sidelined. However, Jorginho and Kante will both be free to move on at the end of the campaign, should they not sign new deals.
As such, adding to the midfield will be a priority for Potter, in order to stay competitive if those players leave.
Blues wish list revealed
Chelsea have been linked with moves for a number of midfielders of late. Transfer insider Simon Phillips has revealed a list of stars that they may look to bring to the club, that could join as soon as January.
“Chelsea have a shortlist of midfielders they are looking at for a priority area in January, and again in the summer,” he told GIVEMESPORT.
“I’ve been told at the moment, Chelsea are looking at Edson Alvarez from Ajax, Moises Caicedo from Brighton, Weston McKennie from Juventus, and Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle. The latter seems ambitious.”
Indeed, the signing of any of those stars would seemingly add to the talent at Chelsea. As with some of their recent acquisitions, Guimaraes would bring Premier League experience.
However, it seems unlikely that they would be able to prise him away from Newcastle United. Indeed, the Brazilian is thriving as one of the Magpies’ key players, and they are actually above Chelsea in the league at present.
Declan Rice transfer talked up
One man that Chelsea have seemed keen on for some time is Declan Rice. Given the players that are potentially departing are more defensively minded, he seems a perfect addition to the side.
It seems the Blues might have a good chance of landing him, too. He’d represent a fine counter after Phillips claimed they may be beaten to the punch for Jude Bellingham by Liverpool.
“Declan Rice is more possible come the summer rather than in January, same goes for Jude Bellingham, but I think he goes to either Liverpool or Real Madrid,” Phillips added.
A move for Rice seems a good one for Chelsea, and a distinct possibility. He would bring Premier League quality and experience to the side, that they would lose in Jorginho and Kante.
While West Ham were doing well, Rice leaving seemed unlikely. However, given the Hammers are now struggling at the bottom end of the Premier League, the Englishman may soon want to jump ship.
Chelsea could be the beneficiaries if that is the case.
