Chelsea Moises Caicedo latest: Agent hails ‘perfect’ deal as imminent arrival praised for tough Liverpool stance

Moises Caicedo has been praised for the way he has stuck to his guns to snub Liverpool and honour an ‘agreement’ to join Chelsea.
The 21-year-old looks set to leave Brighton after joining in February 2021. The Ecuador international made eight appearances in the 2021-22 campaign. After agreeing a season-long loan deal to Belgian top-flight side Beerschot, he was recalled to the Amex in January 2022.
And the South American showed exactly what he could do last term, becoming a regular en route to 37 Premier League outings.
Unsurprisingly, big clubs began to take note with Chelsea and Liverpool locked in a scrap for his signature.
The Blues made several bids earlier in the summer window, all of which were rejected by the Seagulls. And it seemed as though Caicedo might remain on the south coast.
However, news broke on Friday that Liverpool had agreed a £111m fee with Brighton for the midfielder.
That would have broken the British transfer record but only served to spark the Stamford Bridge outfit into action.
It then emerged that Chelsea will trump that bid by putting £115m on the table.
And it appears as though the talented schemer is pushing for a move to the capital.
A report in Saturday’s Diario Extra in Ecuador suggests there was an agreement between the player and Chelsea.
And former Ecuador international, Jorge Guagua, now a football agent, has heaped praise on the youngster for the humanity shown during the transfer tussle.
“Perhaps another player sees more money and forgets what he previously promised,” he said.
“If he’s kept his word to Chelsea, that’s perfect. That speaks well not only as a player, but as a human being.”
Caicedo on brink of Chelsea move
Mauricio Pochettino has been charged with the task of righting the wrongs of last season at the Bridge.
A 12th-place finish was disastrous for the Blues as they struggled to compete under three different managers.
But with the Argentinian at the helm and a bloated squad reduced, they now have some stability at the club.
Christopher Nkunku, Axel Disasi and Nicolas Jackson are among the new signings during the off-season.
And, according to Fabrizio Romano, Caicedo will soon be announced as the next addition.
He said on X: “Chelsea dream remains clear: Moises @ the Bridge on Sunday.”
Guagua is not the only ex-player to praise Caicedo for the way he has conducted himself.
Former Ecuador international, Eduardo Hurtado, believes the starlet will have made the correct decision if he does join Chelsea.
“As a player, you review and realise clubs that were behind you and Chelsea were always in the race,” he said, per Sport Witness.
“If Moises has given his word to Chelsea, he has spoken with Pochettino and he told him that they are interested in him playing in London, he is welcome, beyond the monetary issue.”
Chelsea have yet to submit their revised offer but it seems only a matter of time before the protracted saga comes to a conclusion.
