Chelsea situation ‘open’ as stalwart has two offers on table and talks are ongoing

N’Golo Kante is the subject of interest from two clubs, and his situation is now ‘open’, though talks surrounding a Chelsea stay are ongoing.
Kante has been one of Chelsea’s most prized assets for the last few seasons. In more than six years with the Stamford Bridge outfit, he has racked up 262 appearances.
Along with his consistent role in the side, he has been a successful player for the club. The Frenchman was part of the side that won the Premier League in 2016/17.
On top of that, he won the Champions League in 2020/21, and has also earned a winners medal for the Europa League, FA Cup and Club World Cup.
Clearly, he has been a useful member of the side for a lot of years, playing a crucial role in those successes.
However, his time at Chelsea might be on its last legs. The midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season, and the situation regarding a renewal is up in the air.
Fabrizio Romano revealed in late October that negotiations with the Blues were “not easy”.
With both Barcelona and Al-Nassr on his heels, that could spell the end of his tenure in London.
Kante situation ‘open’ amid negotiations
Romano has since provided an update on Kante’s contract situation with Chelsea. The midfielder is seemingly keen to remain a Blues player, and a new angle in negotiations could lead to a breakthrough.
“N’Golo Kante’s priority has always been Chelsea and the Premier League. Kante is now in talks with Chelsea on different terms, this is why the situation is now open again,” he told Caught Offside.
What those terms are is not explained. However, that negotiations have stretched so long and have never fully broken down could be a good sign for Kante’s future at Chelsea.
Romano adds that the situation is less complex than it previously was, which is another good sign. There are, though, still offers on the table from two interested sides, which could turn the midfielder’s head.
“A few months ago it looked really complicated, but the situation is different now. Barcelona and Al Nassr have never reached any agreement with Kante, just normal interest but it’s now an open situation,” Romano added.
That there has never been an agreement reached on an exit, and Kante’s priority is reportedly Chelsea, points to the fact that he is keen on the deal being completed.
On the other hand, negotiations have been ongoing for a while and as yet have not come to anything. The different terms could be what are needed for things to finally be wrapped up.
Chelsea can survive without Kante
In any case, Chelsea would survive if Kante were to leave the club. Of course, he is a quality player, but they have won 10 games without him in the side in all competitions this season.
Furthermore, the Blues are tracking some quality additions to the midfield.
Either of Enzo Fernandez or Alexis Mac Allister, who are being pursued by Graham Potter’s side, could fulfil the same role that Kante does.
As such, they might not be sweating too much if Kante’s situation is not ironed out.
