Chelsea could be left to rue January decision as target now wanted by Arsenal and Tottenham

Stuttgart's Borna Sosa defends against Borussia Dortmund's Jude Bellingham

Chelsea could be left to rue a January transfer decision with Arsenal and Tottenham now reportedly in the hunt for a defensive target too.

Thomas Tuchel was forced into just the one piece of business last month. He recalled Kenedy from his loan with Flamengo to ease the concerns on the left-side of the team after first-choice full-back Ben Chilwell was ruled out until the end of the season.

Before doing that, the Blues hierarchy considered signing a new defender. Marcos Alonso is now into his final 18 months of his contract.

So getting a new left-back in to replace him wouldn’t have been a bad idea.

One of the options they considered but ultimately didn’t pursue was Stuttgart’s Borna Sosa, 24.

He has impressed in the Bundesliga, with his goal contributions particularly eye-catching. Last season he set-up 10 goals for his team-mates.

It’s been more of the same this campaign, with two goals and six assists in 20 appearances across all competitions.

Sosa has earned himself his first five caps for Croatia. And he’s also attracting significant attention from the Premier League.

As well as Chelsea, BILD journalist Christian Falk has reported that their London rivals want him too.

Could Chelsea move for Man United target Youri Tielemans?

Chelsea could look to pinch Youri Tielemans from Manchester United as he looks ready to leave Leicester City

He claims the Gunners and Spurs are interested in making a move in the summer. Both could be in the market for a new left-back.

Mikel Arteta doesn’t seem convinced by his current back-up Nuno Tavares. And the same can be said for Antonio Conte with Ryan Sessegnon.

As such, Chelsea, who also might be in the market again, could be left wishing they snatched up Sosa in the winter window.

Chelsea have Adeyemi hope

Karim Adeyemi, RB Salzburg celebrates a goal in Austrian Bundesliga v Sturm Graz

Meanwhile, Blues target Karim Adeyemi has made it clear that his future beyond the end of the season with Red Bull Salzburg has definitely not been resolved.

The 20-year-old starlet has emerged as one of the brightest talents in Europe this season. Having scored seven league goals from 29 outings last term, Adeyemi has had lift off in the Austrian Bundesliga this season, netting 18 times in 29 games.

Liverpool, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona are all in the hunt for his signature.

“As I’ve said many times, my focus is on Salzburg. Nothing has been decided,” Adeyemi said, via The Metro. “What happens in summer happens in summer.”
