Chelsea star nearing exit as second Bundesliga side enter the race for his signature

Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi comes on for Trevoh Chalobah

Bayer Leverkusen have reportedly joined the hunt to sign Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi, as they are keen to take him in on loan.

Hudson-Odoi is one of a few Chelsea stars being linked with a move away at the moment. Indeed, with all the moving going on at the club, some stars seemingly feel they are better suited elsewhere.

Chelsea have as yet made six signings this summer, and there are more in the works. As such, Ethan Ampadu, Trevoh Chalobah and Hudson-Odoi may all leave on loan soon.

The latter has been the subject of interest from a few sides already. Both Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla have reportedly registered an interest in the 21-year-old.

The Daily Telegraph journalist Mike McGrath reports that another side have now thrown their hat in the ring.

Indeed, he states that Bayer Leverkusen want to take Hudson-Odoi in on a loan deal.

Should he make the switch, he would be playing away from Chelsea for the first time. Clearly, the Blues like him as a player, as many of their promising youngsters have many loans before they make it in the first team.

The fact he has not done yet shows that they think of him quite highly.

However, with Raheem Sterling having joined, and Anthony Gordon potentially on the way, it may be best for him to gain playing time elsewhere.

The Blues would surely sanction a loan, knowing that Hudson-Odoi would gain experience in a top-flight league.

Loan move a good experience for Hudson-Odoi

Hudson-Odoi is a fairly experienced footballer to say he is only 21. He has played 126 games for Chelsea’s first team, contributing to 38 goals in that time.

However, last season he made just 15 Premier League appearances, starting 11 of those. With new talent coming through the door this summer, he could be in line for a similar fate this season.

Indeed, he is yet to make it onto the pitch this campaign. As such, going out on loan and playing consistently should do him some good. If he performs well, he could make his way into Thomas Tuchel’s plans for the future.
