Chelsea told Cesare Casadei has likeness to Serie A star, with rare trait to benefit Graham Potter

Cesare Casadei, August 2022

Chelsea have signed a gem of a young talent in rising midfield star Cesare Casadei, according to former Inter defender Daniele Adani.

The Blues have enjoyed several years of a settled midfield now, with strong options in that area. N’Golo Kante was a smart signing in 2016 and has more than proved his worth.

Jorginho has also impressed alongside Mateo Kovacic. But, there is uncertainty over the former two as their contracts expire next summer.

Chelsea subsequently signed Denis Zakaria on loan from Juventus this summer. They also signed two exciting young talents in ex-Inter starlet Casadei and Carney Chukwuemeka from Aston Villa.

And 19-year-old Italian Casadei has made a flying start to life at Chelsea, scoring two goals in two Premier League 2 games.

That has only added to the excitement surrounding the Italy Under-20 international. And according to ex-Inter defender Adani, the player has a midfield trait a lot of players could only dream of.

“Casadei is a 15-goal player in the Primavera, he has a straight run like [Matias] Vecino,” Adani told BoboTv.

“He has the ability to get in the middle of ten people, but the ball gets to him. In his head, he has a time as if everyone disappeared.

“He is not a technically fine player, but he has that drive that I think in England they thought they could grow.”

“In my opinion physically in the Primavera, it made a difference. We have to see him make his debut, he went to Chelsea in an incredible way, but it must be seen first.”

Casadei’s only other Chelsea appearance to date came in the EFL Trophy. He had a tough introduction there, playing 85 minutes before receiving a red card for a second yellow.

Casadei a sensible Chelsea transfer move

Looking at how Casadei has started life at Chelsea, his transfer looks a very wise one.

The Blues, led by Todd Boehly and his new consortium of owners, realised the midfield problems coming down the track.

Jorginho and Kante have been solid players for a while, but even if they sign new contracts, they are both advancing through their thirties.

And Casadei may not be ready to play in the Premier League for a while, but he is clearly making his mark in the youth ranks.

Chelsea boss Graham Potter – who has a reputation for working with and harnessing young talent – will no doubt have his eyes on Casadei.

As for Chukwuemeka, he has not had as much of a blistering impact as his fellow Chelsea youngster. He has only played 130 minutes in two of the Blues’ six Premier League 2 matches.

Nevertheless, Chelsea have signed some exciting young talents and they will be players to watch for the future.

Chelsea return to Premier League action against Crystal Palace on Saturday, with Potter getting his first taste of league action for the Blues.
