Chelsea have reportedly ‘agreed personal terms’ with Villarreal forward Nicolas Jackson, while a deal for Moises Caicedo is edging closer.
Mauricio Pochettino is tipped bring in several new faces as he prepares for the coming season. Now, the Blues are close to a stunning double swoop.
Jackson has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs. So, it will be a major coup if Chelsea get a deal done for the 21-year-old.
Indeed, as reported by TEAMtalk, Aston Villa had Jackson on their radar in January. But now, he looks set to make the switch to Stamford Bridge.
This is according to journalist David Ornstein, who, writing for the Athletic, claims the Villarreal star has ‘agreed terms’ with Chelsea.
Although, the London club still need to negotiate a transfer fee with the Spanish club. Jackson has a €35m (£29.8m) release clause in his current contract.
Ornstein notes that Chelsea ‘intend to negotiate’ a transfer fee and ‘bring the Senegal international’ to the club this summer.
This season, Jackson made 26 LaLiga appearances for Villarreal, scoring 12 goals and making four assists. With the ability to play as a centre-forward or a winger, he can provide cover in several key areas for Pochettino next term.
Chelsea to submit ‘official proposal’ for Caicedo
Now, with Chelsea close to securing a deal for Jackson, they are also set to take their first concrete step to sign Caicedo. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Blues will submit an ‘official proposal’ to Brighton in the very near future.
On Twitter, he said: “Chelsea have decided to submit official proposal for Moisés Caicedo next week.
“Direct talks will take place with Brighton in order to get it done.
“The agreement on personal terms is at very advanced stages since yesterday, almost done.”
Pochettino is expected to lose several midfielders this summer, so has made Caicedo one of his priorities.
Indeed, Mateo Kovacic is close to sealing a switch to Manchester City and N’Golo Kante has already confirmed his departure.
Also, Manchester United remain fairly confident they can sign Mason Mount this summer. With that in mind, Pochettino will want to sign Caicedo as soon as possible.
The major sticking point, however, is his transfer fee. Brighton have reportedly slapped a £100m valuation on the Ecuador international. So, Chelsea will have to put their money where their mouth is to get a deal done.
What seems certain, though, is that it’s going to be a very interesting few days for Chelsea fans.
If they can sign both Jackson and Caicedo, there could hardly be a better start to a transfer window for them.
