Chelsea ‘confident’ they can hijack Man Utd move for €150m Serie A striker as Boehly prepares club-record bid

Chelsea are reportedly ‘confident’ that they can sign prolific Napoli striker Victor Osimhen this summer, even without the offer of Champions League football next season.

The 21-year-old, who has scored a stunning 21 goals in 23 Serie A appearances this term, is a key target for Manchester United but the Blues are keen to hijack their approach.

Todd Boehly may have to stump up a new club-record fee to get a deal for Osimhen over the line, but spending money has never been a problem for the American billionaire.

According to a report from 90MinChelsea have made the Ivorian their primary target this summer, with the club’s hierarchy ‘confident’ they can sign him even without the offer of Champions League football.

The Blues have endured a very disappointing campaign this season, and currently sit in 11th place in the Premier League table.

Scoring goals has been their main problem, though, after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has failed to break into the starting XI and Kai Havertz has struggled out of position as a centre-forward.

With that in mind, Osimhen could potentially be a monumental signing for Chelsea, but as mentioned, they will face competition from the likes of Man Utd, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

Chelsea poised to swoop for Osimhen

As noted by TEAMtalk on Thursday, Man Utd are desperate to sign Osimhen this summer, but recent reports suggest that the striker would prefer a switch to Bayern Munich.

However, the Ivorian has made no secret of his desire to play in the Premier League one day, so a switch to England isn’t off the cards yet.

In an interview last month, Osimhen said: “I’m working so hard to make sure that I achieve my dream of playing in the Premier League some day.

“But, like I said, it’s a process and I just want to keep on this momentum and continue to do well.”

With several European giants in the race for his signature, Osimhen’s next club may ultimately be decided by whoever is willing to meet his hefty price tag.

It is believed that Napoli will demand a fee of €150m (approx. £132.6m) for the striker, which would be a club-record fee for both Chelsea and Man Utd.

Boehly has certainly proven he has no problem spending huge sums of money on new players, though, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Blues table a summer offer for Osimhen.
