Chelsea are reluctant to make a move for Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic due to his high wage demands, according to reports.
Mauricio Pochettino is keen to add a quality striker to his squad ahead of the coming season but he may have to turn his attention to alternative targets.
Vlahovic’s form for Fiorentina caught the attention of several top European clubs. Juventus won the race for his signature in January 2022, where he has put in some good performances.
So far, the 23-year-old has scored 23 goals and six assists in 63 appearances in all competitions for the Old Lady.
While these aren’t ground-breaking numbers, Vlahovic is still a top target for some big clubs this summer. Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Manchester United have all registered an interest in him.
However, according to a report from the Daily Mail, Vlahovic’s wage demands are a ‘huge problem for Chelsea,’ who are yet to make a bid for the Serbia international.
Juventus are believed to value the striker in the region of £77m, and the Italian outfit are not interested in allowing him to leave on loan despite recent rumours.
PSG are considered to be the favourites to sign Vlahovic and as it stands, it seems unlikely Chelsea will make a concrete move for him.
Chelsea want to sign Elye Wahi ‘within the week’
After cooling their interest in Vlahovic, Chelsea have reportedly switched their attention to Montpellier striker Elye Wahi.
The 20-year-old scored 19 goals in 33 Ligue 1 appearances last term, along with making six assists. This gives him an impressive average of 0.76 goal contributions per match.
According to Foot Mercato, Wahi’s performances have caught the attention of Arsenal, Newcastle and others. But, Chelsea are leading the race for his signature.
Chelsea’s plan with he youngster is to sign him and loan him out to their affiliate club Strasbourg.
The report suggests the Blues’ talks with Montpellier are ‘progressing well.’ They allegedly hope to complete a deal for Wahi ‘within the week.’
It isn’t clear how much Chelsea are willing to pay for Wahi. It has been previously suggested that a bid of £26m could be enough to secure his services, though. This is clearly significantly cheaper than the £77m required to sign Vlahovic.
Foot Mercato claim that the only serious competition for Wahi is from Inter Milan. The Italian club ‘still believe in their chances’ of getting the France U21 international.
They add that the striker’s future ‘should take a new twist quickly.’ This indicates a decision on a potential move to Chelsea will be made soon.
