Chelsea eyeing up jaw-dropping £280m double deal for England stars in bid to solve critical problem

Chelsea are prepared to go big next summer and are eyeing up a double deal worth £280million in order to solve their midfield problem.

It’s no secret that Chelsea are in need of a midfield overhaul sooner rather than later. The likes of Jorginho and N’Golo Kante now seem to be coming towards the end of their spells at Stamford Bridge.

Midfield has been a problem area for Chelsea for some time now. Graham Potter’s side left things on a sour note before the World Cup with three consecutive defeats.

Against Arsenal and Brighton especially they were guilty of being overrun in the middle.

Due to a series of injuries, N’Golo Kante has only managed to play 174 minutes of Premier League football this season.

Chelsea splashed out over £200million in the summer but failed to address their problems in midfield.

Carney Chukwuemeka was signed as a prospect for the future and Denis Zakaria hasn’t had the chance to impress so far.

Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham on the radar

It has been reported that Chelsea are eyeing up a double deal for England stars Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham ahead of next summer.

The report from the Express claims that Bellingham ‘has emerged as one of Chelsea’s top targets in the summer of 2023’ and they could push hard for his signature.

Bellingham’s price tag is only expected to rise if he continues to perform at the World Cup. The 19-year-old put in a dazzling display for England in their 6-2 win over Iran.

The youngster scored England’s opening goal and ran the game from midfield. Chelsea certainly won’t be alone in their interest of the Borussia Dortmund youngster.

It is believed that it will take a fee in excess of £130million in order to prize Bellingham away from Germany.

Along with Bellingham, Chelsea are also keen on pursuing a deal for West Ham midfielder Rice.

Indeed Rice and Bellingham are no strangers and have formed a formidable partnership together for England in midfield.

The West Ham midfielder won’t come cheap and it would likely cost Chelsea around £280million in order to secure both players.

Todd Boehly hasn’t held back in the transfer window so far, but this would be quite the statement of intent.

Chelsea can’t stand still

Given the position they currently find themselves in, Chelsea are well aware that they must continue improving.

It has been reported that a deal for RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku has already been agreed ahead of next summer.

Potter made a positive start at Stamford Bridge, but he has recently run into some problems. Across all competitions, Chelsea have only won two of their last eight matches.

They are currently eight points off fourth place and run the risk of missing out on Champions League football.

Should they miss out on a top-four finish, their summer plans might be put into jeopardy as they cannot offer Champions League football.
