Chelsea legend John Terry follows the crowd as first managerial post on verge of being announced
Chelsea legend John Terry is on the verge of taking up his first managerial post by joining up with Saudi side Al-Shabab FC.
The 42-year-old has been in talks with the Pro-League club and it’s reported that a lucrative deal has already been verbally agreed.
And if it goes through, the former England captain will become the latest Premier League legend to move to the Middle East.
Terry was reportedly approached by bosses at Al-Shabab around a month ago and has been offered a contract of at least two years and up to four if it is rubber-stamped as expected.
He is currently working on a one-year deal as a consultant in former club Chelsea’s academy.
The Blues are understood to be willing to allow Terry to move on as a mark of respect to his service to them over almost two decades.
Al-Shabab are not considered one of the main players in the Saudi League, although they do have lofty ambitions.
Terry to attract big players to Al-Shabab
Indeed, bosses at the club are confident that Terry’s coaching credentials and reputation will enable them to attract big-name players.
Terry is the most successful player in Chelsea’s history with five Premier League titles, the Champions League and five FA Cups among his trophy haul – having made 717 appearances for the club.
After hanging up his boots, he has had stints working under Dean Smith at both Aston Villa and Leicester.
When Terry is officially announced, he will join Premier League greats Steven Gerrard and Robbie Fowler in managing Saudi clubs, with the duo in charge of Al-Ettifaq and Al-Qadsiah respectively.
