Chelsea transfers: Boehly signing wanted by Euro giant with humbling £11m loss likely if Pochettino swings axe

A struggling Chelsea star who only arrived last summer could be on the move after just one season, with a European powerhouse providing an escape route, per a report.
It’s been a chastening season for all involved at Stamford Bridge. Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter have both been sacked. Club legend Frank Lampard has taken interim charge, though has lost seven of nine matches while at the helm.
Veteran centre-back Thiago Silva spoke out about the club’s decision to sign so many players over the last two windows. In Silva’s eyes, possessing such a bloated squad has negatively affected the dynamic in west London.
“A positive is that we’ve got great players in the squad,” said Silva. “On the flipside, someone is always going to be annoyed or feel down because not everyone can play.
“The coach can only pick 11 players yet there are 30-odd here. That’s an issue, isn’t it?”
With conforming to Financial Fair Play in mind, Chelsea are poised to embark on something of a firesale this summer.
The Evening Standard listed no fewer than 15 players who could depart, with summer signing Kalidou Koulibaly among them.
Regarding the 31-year-old centre-half specifically, the Standard claimed Chelsea are ‘ready to cash in’.
The outlet acknowledged doing so will be difficult given the defender’s high salary and fact he’s under contract until 2026. However, according to reports, Chelsea have found a willing buyer in the form of Juventus.
Juventus showing ‘big interest’ in loss-making transfer
As cited by Goal, it’s claimed the Italian giant are showing ‘big interest’ in the centre-back.
Koulibaly made his name in Italy when previously starring for Napoli. He earned a £33m move to Chelsea on the back of his commanding stint in Naples, though has struggled to adapt to the more frantic Premier League.
The report states his future will be determined by incoming manager Mauricio Pochettino and if the Argentine gives the thumbs down, a move to Juventus could take shape.
Complicating the deal is the fact Juventus were recently deducted 10 points in Serie A for financial malpractice. The deduction has seem them drop from second to seventh and Champions League football is no longer likely.
In any case, Juve certainly sound keen and the report adds a bid in the region of €25m (approx. £22m) could find its way to Chelsea.
That would represent an £11m loss on a player signed just one year ago by Chelsea. However, aged 31, Koulibaly’s value is only going to decrease from here on out anyway.
