Embarrassing Chelsea blunder leaves Ziyech to PSG in limbo after Blues ‘repeatedly’ made the same mistake

Chelsea forward Hakim Ziyech

Chelsea ‘repeatedly’ made the same mistake that resulted in missing the deadline on PSG’s move for Hakim Ziyech, but an emergency meeting is now taking place to determine whether a solution can be found, per reports out of France.

With so many big-name forwards brought to Stamford Bridge in January, requisite exits were always likely. Hakim Ziyech emerged as a primary candidate to depart and a move to PSG appeared straightforward to make.

Indeed, the 29-year-old agreed personal terms with the French giant over a six-month loan with no option to buy. Ziyech flew to Paris and passed a medical, but the story didn’t end there.

CBS Sports’ Ben Jacobs explained: “Hakim Ziyech deal is OFF. He is stranded in PSG club offices. Low confidence of any appeal or solution. Chelsea didn’t submit the paperwork on time.

“PSG fuming. Ziyech has done everything in his power to make the move happen. Told he even offered to help financially. But right now he can’t be registered and is stuck in Paris.

“PSG have an appeal route to LFP [French football’s French governing body for professional football]. But they are not optimistic on their chances.”

Fabrizio Romano added that “contracts are not validated as it stands.”

Now, the real root of the issue has emerged via French publication L’Equipe.

They reported on Wednesday morning that the documents that would’ve ratified the deal were ‘sent too late’ by Chelsea.

Chelsea ‘repeatedly’ sent the same wrong document

In fact, it’s remarkably claimed the Blues ‘repeatedly sent the same wrong document’ and the deadline passed before they realised the error of their ways.

Adding further fuel to the fire is the claim the deal only went down to the wire in the first place because Chelsea attempted to alter the terms of the deal late on.

No option to buy was initially included in the move. However, L’Equipe add the delay arose after Chelsea attempted to include an option to buy which ultimately proved ‘in vain’ anyway.

The saga is not over, however, with the report noting a meeting is currently taking place involving the LFP’s ;egal committee.

PSG’s appeal will be assessed and the article concluded ‘it remains to be seen whether the LFP’s legal committee will give the green light.’
