Five suitors including one Premier league club have been alerted after Chelsea decided to let versatile star Ethan Ampadu leave this summer, TEAMtalk understands.
The 21-year-old has already shown in his young career he is capable of putting out fires in multiple positions. Ampadu has switched seamlessly between operating at centre-half or holding midfield at both club level and for Wales.
He is currently on loan at Serie A side Venezia where his versatility has been on full display.
Indeed, Ampadu can count holding midfield, central midfield, right-back, right-wingback and centre-half among the positions he has filled in at this year.
By all accounts, Ampadu has been a hit in Italy, though the fortunes of his club haven’t matched his own.
Venezia currently sit 18th in Serie A – eight points adrift of safety. They do have a game in hand over Cagliari in 17th, though seven straight defeats would suggest they’re unlikely to make it count.
With Venezia on course to suffer relegation to Serie B, they have little chance of securing his services again next season.
That will put the ball back in Chelsea’s court and we understand the Blues are set to allow the Welsh international to move out on loan once again.
Ampadu could’ve become Tuchel’s flexible friend
There is a degree of uncertainty surrounding many areas of Tuchel’s team in which Ampadu could deputise.
90min reported Jorginho is unlikely to be offered a new deal and is thus a candidate to be sold this summer. At centre-back, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen could both leave as free agents.
Cesar Azpilicueta could return to Spain if Barcelona have their way too. The veteran Spaniard is arguably Tuchel’s most versatile player at present.
Yet despite the unknowns, Chelsea have already decided that Ampadu will be allowed to move on again next term. Given the appeal he brings, a queue of clubs is beginning to form.
We understand Swansea City are keen to take him to Wales. Though the Swans are far from alone in the hunt.
Bournemouth, Middlesbrough and Huddersfield are all believed to have expressed an interest.
Premier League side Norwich City are also among the runners and riders. Though given their current predicament, moving to Carrow Road would likely tee up a campaign in the Championship.
Regardless, whichever club does secure Ampadu’s signature will be getting a player who can solve countless problems when emergency strikes.
