Another Chelsea move to come, with important deal that’ll frighten £100m pair on its way
The end of the transfer window won’t stop Chelsea from conducting further business after TEAMtalk learned a critical deal is in the works that’ll put a pair of expensive signings on notice.
The Blues’ last-gasp move for Enzo Fernandez sent their January spend soaring to an eye-watering £291m. The Argentine World Cup winner shattered the British transfer record in the process, with his £106.8m move surpassing former record-holder Jack Grealish (£100m).
Big money moves for the likes of Benoit Badiashile, Noni Madueke and Mykhailo Mudryk were also sanctioned. If Chelsea’s don’t enjoy a surge in the second half of the season, it certainly won’t be through a lack of ambition in the market.
But while the winter window deadline has come and gone, TEAMtalk has learned another Chelsea deal is in the works.
We’ve been told Chelsea are planning talks with rising star Lewis Hall over a new deal that’ll better reflect his growing influence at Stamford Bridge.
The 18-year-old, who can play at left-back , left wing-back or in midfield, is regarded as one of the best prospects to come through Chelsea’s academy in recent years.
The England U19 international made his Chelsea debut as a 17-year-old against Chesterfield in January 2022 becoming the youngest player to start an FA Cup tie for the Blues.
Hall was handed his first start of this season in the Carabao Cup clash against Manchester City in November and he shone in a man of the match performance.
The versatile left-footer has gone on to make seven first-team appearances for Chelsea so far this season, including getting the nod to start the last three in the league.
Hall is clearly highly-regarded by Blues boss Graham Potter. Indeed, the youngster has kept several big-names out of the starting XI in recent weeks.
Chelsea are ready to reward Hall for his rapid progress with a new deal as they look to secure him on a long-term contract.
Hall is currently under contract until 2025 at Stamford Bridge and the club are preparing talks to improve his terms, as well as tacking on a few extra years to his existing deal.
£100m Chelsea pair looking over their shoulder
If and when Hall pens fresh terms, Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella will begin to truly feel the heat.
The pair – who cost over a combined £100m between them – are Hall’s direct competition for the left-sided roles.
Given Hall’s standing as a homegrown player, it stands to reason he’ll be given every chance to shine.
That’s not to say he’s undeserving of the chances he’s already been given, however, quite the contrary.
But with Chilwell only just about to return from a hamstring injury and Cucurella slowly bedding in following his summer arrival, Hall has been the preferred choice for Potter of late.
If the 18-year-old commits his future and continues to develop at a rapid rate, the more senior stars may quickly find themselves rooted to the bench.
