Fabrizio Romano reveals where Chelsea man ‘would love’ to go as Stamford Bridge exit confirmed and double deal talked up

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be leaving Chelsea after a hugely disappointing spell at Stamford Bridge, with his ideal next destination also revealed.

Aubameyang left the Premier League in January last year when Barcelona signed him on a free transfer from Arsenal. That came after he had fallen out with Gunners boss Mikel Arteta and been stripped of the captaincy.

Surprisingly, Aubameyang returned to England later in 2022 as Chelsea signed him in a £12m deal from Barca on the summer transfer deadline day. The Gabon international was convinced to make the move by Thomas Tuchel, whom he had worked under at Borussia Dortmund.

But Aubameyang played just one match under Tuchel before the manager was sacked and replaced with Graham Potter.

Potter did not fancy using Aubameyang and this left him warming the bench in most matches. The attacker has also outlasted Potter, as he has since been axed. Frank Lampard has arrived as interim boss.

But Aubameyang remains an outcast in west London and is simply counting down the days until he can find a new team. His contract with the Blues runs until June 2024, but they will allow him to depart in a cut-price deal this summer.

Aubameyang has been tipped to go back to the Nou Camp, where he would act as a backup for first-choice centre-forward Robert Lewandowski.

And in a tweet, Romano has confirmed that the former Arsenal skipper will be leaving Chelsea later this year. The transfer guru added that Aubameyang ‘would love’ to reunite with Barca.

Chelsea man hoping to achieve La Liga move

The Spanish giants have placed the 33-year-old on their shortlist of potential striker additions. He is high up in their thinking due to the fact he should be available to sign for less than £15m.

Ideally, Barca would like to bring in Vitor Roque from Brazilian club Athletico Paranaense. But he has proven too costly to sign, which is why Aubameyang is being targeted instead.

Aubameyang is not the only player who might swap Chelsea for Barca in the summer. On Sunday, the Daily Mirror revealed how N’Golo Kante is also wanted by Xavi.

The Frenchman’s future is up in the air. Chelsea are attempting to tie him down to a new contract, with his current terms due to expire this summer, although an agreement is yet to be reached.

Once again, Barca are eyeing Kante up due to his low cost.

Kante joining Barca would be a far bigger blow for Chelsea than Aubameyang going. The all-action midfielder has been out for much of the campaign due to injury and Chelsea have struggled without him.

Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly must work hard to offer Kante a suitable new deal to ward off Barca and ensure the player remains where he is.

But for Aubameyang, it is clear that a transfer is needed so he can start to feel like a useful player again.

Meanwhile, a report has revealed Chelsea are on the verge of announcing Lampard’s permanent replacement.
