Giant Premier League keeper ‘agrees’ to join Chelsea in clear challenge to Kepa starting spot
Chelsea have seemingly taken a giant step towards securing a summer replacement for Edouard Mendy after another Premier League stopper reportedly agreed to join the club.
Mendy quit Stamford Bridge for Saudi Pro League club Al Ahli at the end of June for a reported fee of around £16million after three years in west London.
New Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino has been on the hunt for a new keeper ever since, despite the fact that Kepa Arrizabalaga looks almost certain to be staying with the club for the time being.
And, following numerous reports that Chelsea were weighing up a move for Brighton’s Robert Sanchez, it appears that potential transfer is moving very quickly.
Indeed, the Daily Mail states that the 25-year-old Spanish stopper has already agreed to a move to Stamford Bridge.
There remains the issue of agreeing a fee with the Seagulls, which has so far proved troublesome in the chase for Moises Caicedo.
However, there have been separate reports that the south coast are actually open to a loan for Sanchez, who has completely fallen out with Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi.
Former Brighton goalkeeping coach Ben Roberts is also at Chelsea and played a big part in mentoring Sanchez’s development.
Indeed, the 6ft 6ins shot stopper credits his ‘mental fortitude’ to Roberts’ influence.
